Pomeranian Goose Breed Thread

CONGRATS!!!!
X2
Had to share these pics - one of my geese has decided that she (or he) is a dog.... she has claimed the dog bed! Sorry about the qualitly of the first photo (I took it through a very dirty window because I actually wanted to get a photo).

That is soooo cute!

I just candled the eggs in my waterfowl incubator and I have FERTILE Pomeranian eggs developing from 3 of my first year layers! Caboose, my avatar, laid her first fertile egg on February 11th, and her little sister Bazinga on same day. One of the females I got out of Kawonu's stock, Lois laid a fertile one on the 13th. I got my first egg from my mature pair three days ago and put it straight in the incubator.

So, this means that I can start shipping hatching eggs in the next two weeks. So, I will be messaging all of you on the waiting list for hatching eggs to confirm your orders and preferred shipping dates very soon. I am also going to try shipping goslings this year at the end of the season if I have any stock left after filling local orders. So, if anyone is interested, please let me know!

Have a great week!
That is such great news! Congratulations!

How did they get up there! It amazes me that geese are such good climbers, despite their clumsiness

Very pretty geese! She is sitting on that bed like royalty on a throne!

Congratulations!!!!

Thanks Bhonkers. Now, all I need is more incubator space. Guess it's off to Tractor Supply to get yet ANOTHER little giant still air unit plus an egg turner to tear apart and make into a goose egg turner....then to eBay for a fan kit.
I have incubators EVERYWHERE!

I just wanted to let everyone know that their is a discussion about Pomeranians going on over on the Heritage Large Fowl thread. Long time APA judge Walt Leonard and Robert Blosl started talking about the pink bill versus what is in the APA standard. I have asked a couple questions and Walt has answered the first one. Maybe if we all ask some things we can get some valuable insight from these two very knowledgeable men!

Hello everyone!, I am new to BYC and have a serious addiction to waterfowl, hence the name foul mama! I have two grey saddleback pom's, and two 4 day old African goslings, 10 ducks, various breeds and ages, a mini donkey and a mini horse, also a yellow lab that patrols our 50 acres and our pond, 3 mouser cats and two chihuahuas in the home.
I "thought" I had a goose and a gander, darla and Clyde. To my shock and surprise I found Clyde on a very big beautiful nest that HE had built HIMSELF! WHAT? I know darla is female as she laid eggs last nov, dec. I've never seen darla and Clyde mate, which I didn't find abnormal, I've read that sometimes it takes 2yrs for the male to become sexually mature. They just turned a year old this month! So a question for all the experts! Do ya'll think I have two females? Or will the gander help make the nest and sit? There were no eggs in the nest he was sitting on btw.....
I've so enjoyed reading the different threads, seeing the different pictures, laughing and even crying at the stories. I'm grateful to find a place that is just as nuts about geese, ducks etc as I am. I consider my fowl, part of my family and they are spoiled rotten! There isn't anything I won't do for them!

Not sure if you have 2 females or not... the sure fire way to know is if Clyde starts laying eggs in taht nest! My gander hasnt helped build a nest, but that doesnt mean that other ganders haven't done that. I have heard of males taking turns with females sitting on the nest.

ps. you should share some pictures of your pomeranians!

To BYC and the Pomeranian thread! I second what Bhonkers said about Clyde. You are now in a waiting game and since you already have a female, the only way to know for sure is to catch "Clyde" laying an egg, or get 2 eggs in one day.
I do have one first year gander, Derby, that has made a nest. It isn't big or grand like the ones the girls have made, but I know it was him since he is in his own stall overnight: He hasn't learned to control his teenage hormones and tears all the feathers off his mate's neck at night.
Anyway, good luck and let us know when Clyde's true gender is established. Also as Bhonkers said.....post PICTURES! We love to look at Pomeranians!!!!!!

Thanks for the input! I'm so new to this I didn't think anyone had responded? I'm learning.....
We were hit with a huge snow storm so that threw everything off for a bit, snow is quickly melting and everyone is getting back to the basics of the birds and the bees! Clyde sits on the nest, not constantly, and yes there are eggs in there, I just don't know who laid them? I have yet to see darla sit on the nest, but my babies have become a bit elusive, much to my dismay....my feelings are very hurt, it's like they've decided they don't need me anymore and I can't even pet them! (Tears)
I'd be more then happy to post pictures of them, I've got lots of really good ones, BUT I have no idea how? Any advice?

Thanks guys!

You need a minimum of 10 posts (i believe) in order to be able to upload pictures. Here are the instructions https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...-on-how-to-upload-pictures-onto-the-byc-forum (you'll find that its easy once you do it a couple of times
