Pony For Daughter--Update Page 8. Great First Year Together

Check out this rescue. It is in WI and they adopt all over the states. The prices are very reasonable. The horses come from actual owners and not the kill lot. The descriptions of the horses and ponies are very honest and acurate.

I plan on adopting from them when my 28 yr old Saddlebred passes.

That might be an option for you.

Good luck with your search, I hope you find a good match.

Honestly, Wisconsin is not easy for me to get to. Lake Michigan gets in the way. I'm at the exact farthest point from ANY border in Michigan so out of state is just too long of a drive.

I'm also looking into a Haflinger, a Haflinger/Appy, a Morgan and an older Arab. But the trainer I want to go with has her husband out of town this weekend so it'll have to wait.

We decided on a 9 yr old Welsh-cross for DD. She's adorable and the previous owner took her into all the local county fair shows and has trail ridden her (with adult and other horses present of course). She's 12hh, big enough for me to ride if I need to work her. She's got quite a trot stride on her! My dressage friend watched me work her after DD was done riding her and she said, "Wow! She could do dressage!"

Maybe DD will take her into a walk-trot intro test, but we'll see. We're bringing her to the stable next weekend. Took DD on a "shopping spree" yesterday to pick out a new halter, lead, and grooming stuff. Even found a hot pink water bottle holder to go on her saddle for the summer trail rides.

I love the photo. So cute. My daughter was thrown from a pony we were interested in buying. So she refuses to ride for now. The horse we bought for her and me is very sweet and never done anything dumb. But she is afraid because his size. He's 15.3. Which is funny because she prefers smaller, and she only doesn't trust her horse because his size. He changes his body when he carries a child, like he's trying hard not to move his back. Hard to explain you would have to see it. I am hoping if i give her time she will get back on. She saw her brothers accident when the horse fell on him and broke his femer. So I should have made her get back on , but since it was so tramatic for her I figured pushing was not the best idea.
I would have loved if my kids did lead line. Those photos they will cherish forever. My mom kept pictures of me doing lead line.

my kids like to look at them. Good luck finding a horse or pony is hard. I still can not believe one of the horses i got for free turned out to be the best horse in the world. Well not free because I had to fix his teeth and vet care but worth every penny.

Pony shopping brings back great memories...the first was "Peppermint Patty" who was a snow white welsch. I had alot of fun buying a pink halter, polos, and saddle pad (not allowed for show of course)...and now we're waiting to hear from vet school!!!! Have a blast, and remember that you can't possibly take too many pictures!!!!

Paso Fino! Get a Paso fino! Just the size you were thinking of. I had a mare when I was a kid that was so fabulous.. 13h.. adults could ride her too for short periods.. and as much as they are hot horses.. the breed in general have that special quality, they "know" when someone is green and they will take it down a few notches. My 5 yo mare was so awesome, she was a different horse for every person that got on her, and always one I would want to have around! Lots of endurance, super smart, and many make great trail horses!
You should definitely keep it a surprise! My parents surprised me with my very first horse, so out of the blue, and it is one of my fondest memories... good grades for a year! LOL

I've had bad experiences with Paso Finos. While gorgeous, all the ones I have known have been very high strung and unpredictable.

The little girl who used to ride her is glad that her pony is going to another little girl neraby so she can still see her.
