Pool in the winter? How to?

This will be my first year experimenting with water/ducks. I am sure a ton of money will be spent on failed trials of ideas/buckets/tanks ect..I am guessing there is no easy way to keeping water thawed in -10F and below.

I would say you’re right, that is cold! I hope you don’t break the bank lol.

I didn't give them anything big enough to swim in. They got rubber bowls that they could dunk their heads in and that was it. If we had a nice day (above 32F), sometimes I would give them a tiny pool, but they mostly just had to do without because of how cold it is here

Hi! I'm new to raising ducks, to my understanding, ducks will still need a pond to swim in daily even in the winter.

We can get some harsh winters and our irrigation is turned off during the winter. My ducks currently have a large kiddie pool to swim in that i fill up daily. It's not a problem since it's summer.

How do you fill up a duck pond during the winter? Do you hand walk buckets of water to the pool? How do you keep the pool from freezing? Lastly, how do you keep the pool clean during the winter months?

How warm do the tank heaters keep the water? Just curious, I don’t live where it gets cold for long periods.

You can also use bird bath heaters for smaller drinking water or the smaller rubber tubs

We have a 470-gallon in-ground pond for our six runner ducks. It’s the first winter we have had it. The waterfall keeps the one spot from freezing but this morning the rest was pretty much iced over in 22 degree temps. I think we’ll probably just use the small waterers for the cold snaps - they have two five gallon buckets with holes to dunk heads and drink and a couple of small rubber tubs they can stand in and bathe, etc. Trying to keep the pond safe and unfrozen will probably not be worth it with prolonged cold but any warm spells might see the pool open again for business. Pictures are from yesterday - pond useable with a little ice - and today - pretty frozen!
