Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

I am just getting back into chickens and have purchased a small all contained coop with a net all try the slide out from under the roosts inside the coop.whay do I put on that tray? Pine shavings? What about the other thing sweet pdx. Would that work better than pine shavings?

Sweet PDZ actually absorbs the amonia from the air and keeps the poop from smelling bad. It's like a course sand, about the same texture as clumping kitty litter so it can be scooped like kitty litter to clean the tray. Pine shavings would only catch the poop, not do anything about the smell.
Kusanar makes some good points.
Depends on how you want to manage the poop tray and how deep it is. ...how easy it is to handle, etc...
....you might have to play with it a bit, be flexible and try different things/ways until you find what works best for you.

I gave my husband some ideas, and this is what he built for our shed converted into a chicken coop. I will either put sand or Sweet PDZ underneath them. I love it! I hope my girls to do!
How far is that top roost from the wall?
Best of it is about 12".....18" if you want your roosters tail not get get mussed up.

Do chickens like to have a bathing area like other birds? Just wondering if I should add a little water feature for them in their run?

Chickens, and other birds, take dust baths....I don't think chickens take water baths like other birds.
They might like a water feature to drink out of, but it would probably get filthy if it was close to the ground or they perched on the edge and pooped in it,
and drowning can be a concern with chickens so keep it shallow.

Could you guys post a pic and/or description of whatever tool you are using to screen out the poop from the PDZ? We're having a bit of trouble getting it screened out.
