Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

I find that when I don't clean it daily, the poop breaks down like this. I use a cat scoop - it doesn't get all of it, but pretty good. I am better at getting out to clean the poop board better in the winter - worrying about humidity levels and all.

This strainer came from Home goods and really picks enough poop for us......the strainer part is about 6 inches long . Also, a shot of one of our poop boards. We love them!

windows still open , this is left side of inside coop for roosting , resting , the whole rt side is open for scratch filled toys i made and large hanging store bought reg chic feeder , there is also a large door , and a separate screen door so nice n bright . def have to work on poop trays soon !

ve the poop board idea! The PDZ not only absorbs ammonia, but it also dries out and solidifies the chicken's droppings so they scoop out easily with a kitty litter scoop. It takes all of five minutes to fully 'clean' both 6 foot trays! And the bedding on their floor is nearly spotless, even after two weeks of housing eleven birds.

I dump the droppings into the future flower bed where I plan to plant some azaleas. I figure they would go for the extra acidity.

Hello,

My wife and I are getting close to finishing our first coop/run and will have baby chicks on their way this spring. I love the poop board idea.
Our coop when finished will be 4' wide x 7' long x 4' high. Due to where we were able to build the coop and run in our yard, we will have some nesting boxes on one of the long sides.

I would like to place the poop board above the nesting boxes like I have seen in many of the designs in this post.
If I do so, will I need to add a ramp up to their roosting board?
If I make the nesting boxes 16" high, I will have about 20" left above for the chickens. Is that enough head room?

Our coop has a poopboard under the roost, it's chest height (I'm 5'4"). We built a ramp for the hens.

Be careful with using fresh chicken poop in the garden. It is "hot" meaning it is very high in nitrogen and will “burn” the growing plants.

I'm not going to comb through 174 pages in this thread. I put in a poop board today under my roosts and have granular sweet PDZ to put in it. Anyone use the zoo med or exo terra reptile scoops for the granular form? I want to make sure the mesh isn't too fine and that the granules pass through it.

I found those to be too small for the main coop(30sqft of boards).....and the mesh holes too big for chick brooder poops.

tho some of the larger granules don't go thru.
