Poop board experts!

Ours is very similar to teach1rusl's. We put vinyl flooring on it and ran it up the wall a little higher than the top roost. We use a little kids rake to scrape everything into a bucket,. it's the best thing ever. It also gives us space under the poop board to hang feed and water,. later we will close it in for a brooder or storage.

I made my poop board out of a sheet of bead board, a sort of thin paneling, that I found in my garage left over from some project my DH didn't finish. I get more coop stuff that way! lol I didn't paint it or anything, just sprinkle some shavings on it and use a hoe to scrape off into a bucket every 3 days or so. In summer I do sprinkle a little Sweet PDZ on it too. I keep my buckets under the back of the coop until I'm ready to take to the compost pile. I deep litter shavings in my coop and haven't cleaned it out yet (since July) and there is no poop/ammonia smell at all. I do sprinkle DE and/or Sweet PDZ in the shavings about once a week during warm weather.

This is a very interesting post....who would have thought I would be interested in poop boards a few months ago!

I wonder if have a slanted poop board would be good - slanting it back to the wall with just a few inches of fall and having a door that could open behind it so it could be scraped out. I am still in the designing phase...so I am trying to think outside the box a little and everyones pictures are certainly helping!

We use rabbit cage trays under our roosts filled with shavings... but you can use any type of tray thingie...

Redhen, that's a great idea! Will have to check them out next time I'm at the farm store.
WHAT are you using for nesting boxes??? I'm very intrigued!!

Hi! I'm not using them anymore..because i changed coops...
But they are just storage cubes that have a door on them...i wanted the doors so i could close them at night, until my girls learned to not sleep in the nest boxes..

I've covered mine in Coroplast or vinyl flooring scraps in the past. In the old days, they painted them with gloss oil paint. This makes the clean off easier.
They must also be EASILY removable; you should be able to take them out with ease. You shouldn't have to move other things for access, nor should they be fiddly to take out.

A novel idea from Delbert Hartmann is to hang a barrel cut in half below the roost. Fill the barrel partially with water, place a screen over it to keep the chickens out and the droppings fall in the water - no mess, no fuss. Add a large ball valve to the barrel for drainage and you have Magic Manure Tea for use in the garden. This method also keeps more of the poo's precious nitrogen in the water, as opposed to being dissipated into the air.

My coop is a 6 x 3 box raised 2ft off the ground I have two sliding trays which pull out with out even opening the door.

They are spotlessly clean, Mainly cos I dont have any chickens yet

My perches just lift out.

I have a 9" wide shelf in the middle which is fixed but it has a second shelf on top of it which locates on pins. This just lifts off for cleaning.

Almost a shame to buy hens now

they will only mess my hard work up.

Anybody know where i can buy plastic chickens
