My buff has some dried poop on her feathers under her vent... no sign of infection or anything. Does this require a bath or will it work itself out? Thx!

Most of the time it works itself out. If it starts to cause problems before then you can cut it off, crush it if its dry or bathe her. If it is a reoccurring problem trimming the feathers will reduce it.

I let the girls take care of their own dingleberries or smears, they preen them off eventually.

If it's a large wettish blob and is stuck tight might be best to examine and get it off, especially in fly season when flies can lay eggs in the feces stuck to the bird.
Extreme, and rather rare in chickens, scenario...'Fly Strike' is when fly eggs hatch in feces stuck to animal and the larvae feed on animals flesh.

Thanks everyone. I might try to cut the larger piece off but sounds like it is not a problem at this point.
