Up, down, to the side. It is almost always one of those and almost never a peck directly "in" in my experience. I am the only one who pecks directly in, since it causes the most water to flow. Usually when I am trying to train the chicks.

glad to know it works for you. I think this is the way I will go.My second go around using that puppy pen for 8 chicks. Works great! I put it on a table this time and like it being up higher personally. It is light weight so it’s easy for me to set up and since it folds, its simple to store. Highly recommend! Best wishes

I was thinking of using a dog pen as a brooder container. 20 chicks would need 1 sq ft each = 20 square feet up to 8 weeks correct (1/2 square foot from 0-4 weeks but then more later)?
