Pop up Excersise Pen/Kennel for Brooder

My second go around using that puppy pen for 8 chicks. Works great! I put it on a table this time and like it being up higher personally. It is light weight so it’s easy for me to set up and since it folds, its simple to store. Highly recommend! Best wishes:love

glad to know it works for you. I think this is the way I will go.

I was thinking of using a dog pen as a brooder container. 20 chicks would need 1 sq ft each = 20 square feet up to 8 weeks correct (1/2 square foot from 0-4 weeks but then more later)?

Found this one on Amazon which seems to be about 20 sq ft. Would this be good for 20 chicks up to 8 weeks? Please click on the Amazon Link below.

I'd do 1 sq ft up to 4 weeks and 2 sq ft up to 8 weeks... I give mine 2 sq ft from the start and they still seem to be crazy to get out by the time they're a few weeks old.

I'm currently using a pack and play for our brooder - the only thing we noticed as they got older/bigger was we needed to level out the bottom with a harder surface (placed a few spare boards under the pad which we had covered in a garbage bag, then cardboard then pine shavings) due to the weight of them plus food/water beginning to dip the floor. Their water container would drip/spill if not leveled.
