Popular Music , Dumbing Down Our Kids?

The creativity behind eminem's lyrics is incredible but I'd agree not appropriate for younger or just plain impressionable ears. Also I see alot hate rap (which I necessarily do not favor) but is all rap bad because of the content of most? If so then could that kind of philosophy be a reason discrimination still exists?

I do the same with country so I am gulity also. I do not EVER unless it is playing in a store listen to country and I usually hurry to get out. I don't even own a single tune of country. Just food for thought.

Yes on both counts. By virtue of the "most being bad," as you put it, the least gets a bum rap, so to speak. This in turn leads to discrimination. That's reality.

Along these lines, lets ask this: If you are a nice person and yet you associate with thugs, hoodlums and ne'er do wells, how are you to be viewed?
And, how long before you, yourself, absorb enough from the company you keep to be affected?
Again it's the content that matters, not the presentation or the celebrity of the presenter.

What must be seen is that it does not neccesarily follow that because you have a first amendment right, "anything goes."
Or, as Hubert Humphrey so clearly stated it, "The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously."​

If more parents spent time listening to their kids, listening to their music or watching their shows then maybe society would be better off. Instead most parents appear to be taking a hands off approach to the future generation. Don't blame media they are out to make money and they are obviously successful at it.

It boils down to Parental resposiblilty.

not all music is bad not all rap is bad....

i personally don't listen to rap but there are a few songs that are good.... music is a way for people to express themselves .. i listen to all types of music from country all the way to techno trance and i am a good person all the way through.... music doesn't make the person ... i know i can't go a day without listening to music of all types

just like rap music each other type of music has a few songs that i think aren't for kids ... but like i said music doesn't make the person...

Basically, if you don't like it don't listen to it or turn it off. We cannot monitor everyone everywhere or we don't have the freedoms that our great country gives us. We cannot say only our way or only their way. We have to have tollerances of everyone and everyone's ideas and viewpoints. What you choose to believe and like is up to you.

Have you noticed how many action movies have rap music for a sound track? Or how Mercedes commercials have Led Zeppelin in the background. I remember when Mercedes was for old farts. Same thing with Cadillac.

I guess since they play the music I grew up with it makes me an old fart. 10 years from now Mercedes will use rap music in their commercials. Scary.

i don't like it when I'm flippin through the radio and they say something like blah blah blah classic rock here's Korn or here's Pearl Jam. It makes me feel old and I'm only 24. I hate this in 10 years it is considered classic....chicky poop on who ever came up with that!!!

I have to say I agree with you on the overuse of "tollerance"........when you put it that way! I don't tollerate very well on a lot of issues! LOL. I DON'T agree with handing out birth control and it TORQUES me off that parents have alcoholic parties for their underage teens. I wanna smack em and ask what the H**l are you thinking idiot! Kids should be educated on what happens and what CAN happen and to have morals and the family backing to uphold those morals. Piercings and tattoos and such....Ok now you have my dander up! Thanks for smacking me back into reality!
