Popular Music , Dumbing Down Our Kids?

I agree with you. The N word used to be bad but rappers use it over 20 times in one song. And caucasions cant' say the N word but its fine for them to call us "crackers" which is a racist term. I dont get it?

Tolerance is a necessary part of society. One of the things I wont tolerate is people shoving their values down my throat or telling me how I should live.

If you are raising your children properly, the lyrics in some song should not change their values or make them stupid. I agree with a previous poster that computers are making children stupid and lazy more than music or tv.

i was married when i was 17, my husband was 18. we went on to have 6 children.
and really..who says birth control will keep your daughter from getting pregnant? and besides that, what is wrong with raising your kids with morals and values? i have several teenagers and none of them drink or sleep around. i know where they are at all times, and if they wanted to date, they would do so with a chaprone. and honestly, if my daughter were to make a horrible mistake and get pregnant, i would rather her take the responsibility and raise her child than kill it with the morning after pill. up until 20-30 years ago people cared about instilling values in their family but now its almost as if they want to be their kids best friends. so sad and we are reaping what our parents have sown, and what others are continuing to sow by allowing this behavior.

I agree. I like the same stuff you do. Can't really stand rap. I was in the Army when it first started getting popular and It drove me nuts, but all the younger black guys liked it. The older black guys mostly liked MoTown and blues. Of course they lived off post, so us white dudes got to listen to a lot of rap.

i agree with you. its not the music in and of itself, its the fact that parents are allowing their kids to listen to it and actually buying it for them.

My 11-year old boy, when I asked what kind of music his friends listen to, told me girls talk about music, boys don't. On his MP3 player he has: Johnny Cash, The Doors, the soundtrack from O Brother Where Art Thou, Fanfare for the Common Man, the Beetles, They Might Be Giants, Hank the Cowdog (book), music by John Williams, Violent Femmes, the Police.....

He has some varied tastes, but is still obviously influenced by this geezer parents. Strangly enough, both by kids love Fanfare for the Common Man. I used to play it in the car, over and over again, if they were fighting. They would always shut up and pull out the air trumpets.
