Does music need to be complicated? I like to think its a way to express oneself and relax. Unfortunatly with everyone with trying outdo each other its so messed up. Sometimes it would be nice to get back to basics.. the old time Appalachain mountain music and the like are very insperational.
Personally, I have heard some rap, but I will never purposely listen to it, it just doesn't fit with me, sure, sometimes the beat is pretty good, but theres too much junk in alot of it for me to want to turn on a rap station. I understand alot of musicians will make a song or just record one to get money and fame, and there is some good music out there from that purpose but if killing people in music is expressing yourself? Then I won't be listening to any of it, I feel bad for those people. I especially enjoy music that comes from the musician's heart, especially music that they have written themselves and slaves hours over, to me it just has so much more meaning, and that goes for all genres music, I can definitely respect that.
Fortunately for me, when I was younger my mom introduced good music to me that stuck, mainly 70's and 80's soft rock, and oldies country, some blues. Occasionally I'll heard some newer artists that I like the sound of and what they stand for.
I think my all time favorite band is Fleetwood Mac, some other musicians I really like:
Stevie Nicks, Eurythmics, Blondie, Heart, Regina Spektor, Bat for Lashes, Feist, Tegan and Sara, KT Tunstall, Elton John, Apocalyptica, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Meatloaf, Cyndi Lauper, Kate Bush, Hall & Oates, Allison Krause, Robert Plant, John Couger Mellencamp...
I do my school online at home and I signed up for a History of Rock & Roll class, very interesting, basically goes through music over the years, how it came to be etc. really, music is all intertwined, it evolved from one to another, so I guess it gets me when people say they absolutly hate one genre but like another that had evolved from it.. it's fine if you dislike certain music, but some people get over the top with hate.
Anyway, in the class there was a 'which 5 songs would you take with you if you were stuck on a deserted island', and then the teacher took all the songs and put it on a playlist for everyone..
There was maybe like five rock classics, a couple country, the ones I chose (Dreams - Fleetwood Mac, Comin Back To Me - Jefferson Airplane, These Dreams - Heart, Time After Time - Cyndi Lauper, and Dark Cone Soon - Tegan and Sara), but all the rest of the songs on the playlist were like heavy death metal and nasty rap songs, makes me wonder...
