Porcelain Silkies

What color did you tell the Judge she was?

~ Nikki

Hi Nikki, I told the judge it was light buff - I didn't know what to call that color myself.

Now I know, Thanks to Sonoran.

Calling it buff was part of the problem for the judge. With that name he was going to compare it to the standard for buff. Isabel, especially with lavender areas is just a different colour. IMO, it is actually closer to the hue of wheaten than to buff.

Ok who started this thread? So not right, now I want some of these too! lol
They really are a gorgeous coloring, I sure hope more people get into raising this variety because they really are a sight.

Take Care,
Bill.

My fault.

I started the thread.

I love your bird Fowlrus. The judge was wrong when he said she had poor coloring, because he wasn't catagorizing her in the correct color. I believe she is beautiful.

I contacted George again. He told me to hold off, and we will begin picking out my birds in Oct.

Yay. Can't wait. I haven't decided yet if I am getting a Splash Pair and a Porcelain Pair. Or a Splash Rooster, and a Porcelain trio. Which do you guys think I should go with? I have a splash hen. So I was going to get a pair and have a trio of splashes and a pair of porcelain. But since everyone seems more interested in Porcelain. Maybe I should get a porcelain trio and a splash pair.

I just got heart surgery, so I can't really do anything for a month or two. But I have a friend coming to stay with me and help out, so hopefully I will get my new silkie pens build within a week or two. I will post pictures once they get going.

Oh, definitely go with the Porcelain Trio. You can always get more Splash later. I may end up buying eggs or birds from you once you have a good breeding program going.

Thanks KinderKorner, for started this thread. I for one learn so much from it, Sonoran had open my eyes up with colour info, if I had listen to the judge and take a wrong turn, OMG, I would be soooo in bad shape right now.
I totally agree with Fattie, you can always get Splash, Porcelain is much more rare.
I know a lot of people with silkie in TX, but I'm pretty sure, no one have silkie of either Isoble or Porcelain. Bren in TX(she's a big idol of my) she have levandre silkie which is to die for, but I havn't incounter any Isobal or Porcelain is person YET.
Take Care, KinderKorner.

My family agrees. I will most likely be getting a Porcelain trio and a Splash Rooster to go with my hen. I can always get some more splash later on.

Also I am needing a White rooster, so maybe in the spring I will get a white rooster and a splash hen from george. Who knows.

Can't wait for mine now GR! lol. I'm still trying to scape up enough money to buy them. haha. Selling some expensive things on Ebay to try and get some cash in pay pal.

As soon as I get them I will post pictures on BYC for SURE!

I will be hatching chicks this winter for myself. Then perhaps I might be selling some eggs in the spring. I'm sure I will have some started birds that are extra for sale too. Not sure if anyone wants to pay shipping though but we will see.

Problem is I have absolutely no clue what to charge for them. Maybe I will do an auction. I don't know. Thats still a few months off yet.

George is a great breeder to get your silkies from- IMO he breeds the best looking splash & blues ive ever seen- Top knotch all the way. Once i started breeding with a splash roo from his lines..I never had a single cull.

I was privileged of gotten some silkies/showgirl from Brenda in TX years back, she is top notch breeder IMO and a wonderful person. Seeing her silkies and showgirls is how I got started. I think I'm lucky to get started with a great breeder, like Melissa508 said, most of the hard work is done by them, it does make things a lot easier for us.

I like to have George's line too, Melissa508, do you have any eggs for sell?
