Year 2 and 3 tend to be the worse for repeat broody behavior. They are a pain, my box has had broodies in it since about May non stop. This year I had my first broody buff Orpington, she was crazy, she would almost jump out of the box to get me, crazy bird.

Break them as soon as you notice the behavior, and it should take only 2 days, and laying should resume sooner. Some I break just as they are laying that last egg.

Wow that sounds awful! Haha thankfully she's a sweet, gentle girl and just puffes up and hisses.

And yeah, I would have but we weren't home so I'm going to now. So you think don't even try with taking her off, just go with the crate again right off the bat? I suppose that might be easier, faster, and less stressful

Go straight to the crate unless you can block all your boxes so she can't sit and heat up. My box is just a separate pen where they pace and try to get back to the nest. So a wire bottomed crate isn't always necessary, for most, just not letting them back to the nest will work.

Thanks! I'll try that. I can't really block off the nests cause then the other girls wouldn't be able to use them and if I only blocked one she would probably just go in another one lol

But maybe you mean block them off at night? But I'm too lazy to get up at 5 and open it :lau

I'll find the crate and put her in it

Look who is broody again.... :barnie

And her friend, who ran off the box when I checked again this morning.

:barnie:lau Don't know whether to cry or laugh for you. We are starting to see some molting, which will stop the broody nonsense for a while. It has been a broody-tastic year here too.

Ridiculous right!? 3 times in 4-5 months... :barnie And it was bad enough when it was just her but now she is encouraging her friends too.... no. Just NO. lol

I think it partly falls on me though for not collecting the eggs daily. That will change now.

I collect eggs, and even remove my ceramic eggs but broodies keep coming. Hopefully next year they won't do it. It seems hit and miss with some.
