I recently noticed my Roo’s foot is swollen. It looks to me like Bumble foot. I soaked his foot in warm bath water with Espom salt added to it. This brought the swelling down slightly. I was going to try and get the kernel part out of his foot but noticed it’s not raised on the foot, if anything it’s sunk in a little. He has always had a gimpy leg as the lady we bought him from kept him and two other Roosters in a tiny wire cage and we think he got his foot caught in the cage.
He is very friendly and we don’t want him to be in any pain so we are trying to figure out how to fix this.
He is eating and drinking normally
He can stand and walk on his foot and didn’t seem to be in any pain but I know that he is most likely in some form of pain
He is roosting and acting normally.
Please help, I will post pictures down below.

This is him in the bath. We soaked his foot for 12 minutes.

I just decided to add this pic of him. He is 1/12 years old Buff Orpington.

I think that is bumblefoot... How hard is that black area? Just in case you don't know, that black flesh is all dead or dying flesh... It is infected based off of the green ooze... I recommend flushing with peroxide several times then with warm water to flush away the peroxide. Keep his foot clean and warm to encourage circulation, and hope for the best...

Did you see the telltale scab on his footpad? If not, I dont recommend cutting it open. It could be something else rather than suspected bumblefoot.
A photo of the bottom of his footpad including toes, and a photo of his foot and leg while he's standing would help.
BTW; I've done a few bumblefoot surgeries.

I agree with Athena- the black part needs to go.

Then I would use Vetricyn, if you have it -- to flush it- pack it in Neosporin (no pain relief - ORIGINAL) -- or triple antibiotic cream.

H have a roll of narrow gauze, a roll of Vetrap (or whatever brand is available)-- and cut it into thin strips- like see what will fit between his toes. I liked to pack with the ointment, put a nostick pad (cut into a circle to fit over the now hole) - then wrap it in roll gauze. THEN kind of paper-mache it all together with vetwrap going up above the gauze on his leg, then just a mish-mosh between the toes, over the pad and so one until it's well-covered, cushioned, and will stay on even if he starts pulling at it.

If you've got it really well sealed off you can probably leave it on for a good 3 days provided he's not walking around in wet stuff. Or you can change it every day- up to you. After that it's a matter of doing the same thing until it's healed over.

I had to leave town due to family reasons. I just left and should be back Sunday. My roo seems to be doing really good so far and I have my neighbor coming to check on him everyday. The black part is not a scab and I didn’t even know about his foot until I was doing my weekly chicken check up. He didn’t act like he was in pain when I was messing with the spot. He was just watching me mess with it. I’m not going to cut into it until I’m back and can see how he is doing. If it worsens I’ll have my neighbor take him to a vet. She has chickens as well.
