some hens will sit on golf balls and refuse to get up and eat. thats when you start losing eggs for dinner. the hen i am referring to is a silkie bantam and she has gone broody 5 times this year.they like to share nests and if one is broody the others either want to be or they sneak their eggs in there so she can do the work . if you dont have somewhere else to put her for a few days this behaviour will continue.the silkies are the worst ones in my opinion for doing this.she has hatched 2 clutches this year and out of 12 babies i would say only 3 belong to her. i dont use their eggs,(the shame) i feed the crows. so im not in a hurry to collect them and i certainly dont need any more bantams. they are my eye candy. i have 2 rirs that keep me supplied with enough eggs to eat.now i will have to build another run for the extras i have if i dont find homes and my family will not eat them after i butcher so why bother.
