Possible Guinea Eggs in "Quail" Batch?

Contrats on your new camera there Granny. Hope you can figure it out I have a camera tried it once and then gave up (LOL) so there it hangs beside the cpu gets dusted occasionally and then put back. Don't want to wake the evil troll camera. Got my goodies mailed to brothers and sister on Weds and my brother in Chandler,Az got his packages on Friday night. Haven't heard for the other ones so don't know yet. Spent over $80.00 in shipping this year, that's a couple gifts alone.

Found a dead hen Friday. I think it was the one who laid the huge wrinkled egg, that was full of blood and something else that is not part of a normal egg was also an yolk. Not sure what it was but put me off eggs for a couple days. There is a definite reason to crack your eggs in a separate bowl!!!!!!!

Any ideas as to what was in that egg??? Was she molested by alien's part of her egg making bits??? Is it contagious??? I bow before the panels expertise and wisdom.

Haha, I don't know about expertise and wisdom. But from what I know, very young layers and very old layers tend to have little "blips" in their systems. I've had new layers lay wrinkled, yolkless, colorless, and even double yolked eggs. However, certain illnesses or stress can also cause weird eggs. If she died after laying an egg like that, I would check the rest of the flock to make sure nothing is wrong. If it was just her, she may have had some cysts or some type of ovarian cancer going on. Sorry for your loss.

She wasn't very old hatched end of august 2012. Evidently one of the roos favorites as had no feathers on her back. I do occasionally get double yolkers but have never had such a wrinkled egg looked like veins you can see around you ankles or back of hands. At least us older people do.

Sounds like she had some internal problems.

LOL just wait until you get old and have bulging veins. I suspect that she just had a few internal issues or blew out something. Everyone else seems happy and healthy other then the lack of feathers. Any ideas as to roo to hen ratio?? Wondering how many more of the gang are going over the fence.

A good ratio is one rooster to about eight or nine hens. But ratios won't stop a rooster from having favorites. If any of your other hens have missing feathers, I would invest in some chicken saddles.

There are a lot of patterns on google images if you just type it in. It really depends on what type you want. I like the ones where you don't have to do any sewing- I'm no good at it.

Here's a sewing pattern:

And a no-sew pattern (just a piece of cloth):

I assume the pattern would work for both chicken and quail. You'd just have to alter the size a bit.
