I just got this in my in-box and thought that I'd pass it along to you all too.
NAIS ALERT:
KEEP 'BIG BROTHER' OUT OF FARM BILL
Industrial agriculture lobbyists have been pushing for a National Animal Identification System (NAIS) for several years. The proposed NAIS program would require every person who owns a farm animal, even if it's just one chicken or a pet horse, to register their "property" with the federal government, identify each animal (in most cases with implanted microchips or other electronic identification), and report their movements on a national database. This program would impose particularly heavy burdens on family farmers who raise animals on pasture, while giving further competitive advantage to factory farms. The House Committee on Agriculture is considering a provision in the massive 2007 Farm Bill that would implement NAIS. The House Committee on Agriculture will vote on the bill July 12, so time is of the essence.

That's CRAZY!

Darn government. Like the don't have anything more important to do. :eyeroll:

I'll go check out the site. Thanks for posting.

Silkiechicken, I never thought of that! (I bet they didn't either.) What ARE they going to do with the microchip?
From what I understand, it is about the size of a grain of rice.
So what happens if they all end up lodging somewhere in your intestines, then they can track your every move!

silkiepjsg, could you post the actuall bill number that is being voted on? I googled and couldnt find it and when I clicked your link, it re-directed me to a page on www.democracyinaction.org. After a very quick google of that orginization, it seems they are a pretty left leaning political orginization (they seem tied to or a spin off orginization of MOVEON.ORG so I am being very generous in saying they are only left leaning). The link also didnt have any specifics, they just wanted people to contact thier reps. (another red flag, reputible sources always cite the bill number and usually have a direct link to the bill or the text of it).

Here is the link to the USDA's site for the NAIS and so called animal ID. http://animalid.aphis.usda.gov/nais/animal_track/index.shtml I didnt see anything that talked about manditory chipping of animals or anything like that.

It should also be noted, there are states that already have implimented premises registration and the there have been no sky falling incidents to date. Not saying it is perfect or anything but the predictions of nay sayers havent happened or even hinted to happening yet.

HTH

I to have heard about this. It was a topic of discussion at a 4-H meeting here a month back. It was a mandatory meeting for all the clubs and any one showing animals. There was some hot shot person from the dep. Of Agriculture. And they said the same thing...... Its pretty scary when they want to know every single thing you own from guns to chickens. THe person that lead the meeting told us they put the micro chip in the head or neck of the animals. I am waiting for the day when they want to start Micro chipping us!!

USBR;
From what I can tell, it is actually called the 2007 Farm Bill.
This may not be the actual bill, (as I don't really care to read it in all the way through) but you might check out:

You can also just google "2007 Farm Bill" and find various things on it. Most organizations talking against it...

Alleyoops25;
Yes, I sometimes think it is only a matter of time until they DO microchip us!!!
(I'm serious!)

I've heard that 10 phone calls to a Senator's or Congressman's office represents a national emergency. So call your Senators/Congressmen, and request that they vote against it. Generally, if they have enough input from the public they'll get the drift and do what you ask them to. Example; the Amnesty for Illegal Aliens the shot down this morning.
Having the animals micro-chipped doesn't bother me all that much, although I don't care to have government official messing with my animals, it's the fact that the Federal Government has no right whatsoever to do that. (Read the Constitution) And once it gets away with one thing it'll go farther next time.
If you don't know who your Reps. are, contact WallBuilders to find out.

I hope that legislation never passes the congress but just a warning if it does pass, then guess who's next...........................................................................................................................................................
