Possible prolapsed vent? Egg bound?

The latest on our girl...it's not looking good. She isn't drinking water, nor is she eating the eggshells/tums combo. I tried giving her some scrambled eggs today (saw on a post somewhere to try) and even that didn't do it. At this point I don't believe it is egg binding because I feel no egg or any "firmness" around her vent or soft tissue. She has had 3 epsom baths and lots of lubricant, and I feel each time, both on her back and sitting upright. However, she seems to strain and possibly is irritated back there because she bites at her vent and that firm, bulbous tissue pokes out and then goes right back in. Today I tried letting her free range with her girlfriends, but she just stood on a bridge and watched. When I put her back in isolation, she just nested down. I don't know what to do for her. Any suggestions at all? My husband is not keen to a vet, he says this is the cycle of life. But I can't bear to see her like this.
