I have a new chicken I believe she has scaly leg mites we are leaving for vacation in a few days and I was wondering if there was something I could do for her before I leave

From the Fresh Eggs Daily blog -

• Soak the legs and feet in warm water and a mild dish soap, then rise and dry them off.
•Using an old toothbrush, gently scrub the afflicted hen's legs and feet with white vinegar, garlic juice or Neem Oil.
• Apply some olive oil mixed with cayenne pepper and a few drops of sweet orange essential oil....or smear the legs and feet liberally with some Green Goo or plain coconut oil.

The oils will help to suffocate the mites. Repeat every other day or so. 😊

As far as mites and lice go, I’d check behind your hen’s heads and by their vent to make sure there aren’t any other types. I’m dealing with some now and they are nasty buggers to get rid of, using permethrin and diatomaceous earth to eradicate them.

Good luck! 🍀
