Possibly An Internal Layer *GRAPHIC PICS*

very sorry for your loss. :hugs Excellent job on the necropsy and great pictures! That's a lot of cecal worms, you gonna de-worm any birds?
Your response is what I’ve been waiting for. And since you replied I’m guessing you think I should.

What should be my first step, a combined fecal test? I know I can’t have my cake and eat it too, but I hate that my eggs will be unusable for X number of weeks. That’s a lot of eggs, but I guess it needs to be done.

I have not worked simply because I haven’t seen anything out of the ordinary that suggested it needed being done. BUT, yesterday changed all that really quick, didn’t it?

Please let me know what I need to do as I know one wormer won’t cover everything. All of my birds free range my yard and a barn yard so I know worms are there. I just haven’t seen signs of an overload.

That’s why I couldn’t change it I guess. My first post was in March. But thankfully it has been added.

Thank you for sharing your journey and necropsy. I'm sorry for you and your poor girl :hugs
Thank you very much. I will have to give my Biscuit and Butter :)gig you can tell I like food, huh?) a lot of credit. They were two out of my first four that have let me do anything with them. I have poked, pulled, picked and prodded on them since day 1, without any objection from them. They allowed me to learn an awful lot about chickens. I knew nothing to begin with. Well, I also have to give credit to BYC. With this forum and my two Buff Orpingtons, I’d still be chicken ignorant!:lau

I probably would. How many do you have?

yes

If your fecal comes back negative for capillary worms you can use the Safeguard low dose that treats cecal worms and large roundworms with a zero-day withdrawal. If the fecal comes back positive for capillary worms you will need to use a higher dose which will have an egg withdrawal.

I have a total of 37 now. 24 hens, 1 cockerel (he’s almost a rooster :wee) and 12 seven month old pullets.

One of my drawbacks is I’m a very literal person. What that means in this context is, how in the world do I mix up a night’s worth of droppings for 37 birds so that it is mixed well enough for a good sample? :idunnoI mean, does it need blended? :sick

And for whatever reason I was under the assumption that there was an egg withdrawal period for all of it, so what you’ve told me is good news. Well, so long as no capillary worms are present.

I'm not going to say more than you should research the egg withdrawal recommendations for these products and make up your own mind. Some manufacturers of the products give rather different advice to the forums and many vets.
