Yesterday I saw a baby chick for sale, it was somewhat big for a baby chick (still it was definitely a baby chick, around a week old at most) and it was quite active so I thought that it'd be a healthy one. When i got the chick home, which was at night I put it to sleep and turned on a heater for warmth in the room i kept it in. The next day when I got to see the chick in the morning I noticed three things: rattling, wheezing, and occasional sneezing, so it's very easy to imagine the amount of panic I'm currently in. The chick itself is still very active and huggy as heck, it's eating and drinking. it had pasty butt but I've been cleaning it with a cotton swab and warm water. What I've done so far is clean the place I'm keeping it in once more, give it water with a tiny amount of sugar dissolved in it and replace the grains I was giving it as feed with chick feed. I'm currently considering anti biotics but seeing as it looks healthy someone told me that I'm just panicking for no reason. that's why I need to be sure. I have pictures, videos and voice recordings, if anyone here knows about the topic please feel free to ask and I'll send them

Two things - heat and grit. Is the chick getting a heat source such as a lamp making a warm spot on the floor where you have it? This is necessary for the chick to warm itself and regulate body heat.

The second, grit, is necessary so the chick can grind up the grains in its gizzard. The chick cannot digest grains without grit which would be small gravel the size of sand.

The sneezing can indicate it has a respiratory infection. It may need an antibiotic. What is your city and country?

I use the heater that I usually use to heat up the room, I checked myself and the spot where the chick is kept is very warm as it's basically in front of the heater. For the grit I was planning to grind up egg shells and mix it with the feed, if that's ill advised then I can definitely get some gravel and use it instead. I live in Najaf, Iraq.

Egg shells are water soluble and will dissolve before they can be useful in the gizzard. You need small gravel the size of coarse sand. It should be granite or quartz, not clay.

Can you find a store, probably a pharmacy, that sells Tylosin powder? That would be the best antibiotic to give the chick for the respiratory infection.

The heat sounds fine, but the chick needs a large enough space where it can also find a cool area in which to shed excess heat. If the chick can't do this, it can get sick from too much heat.

I'll check but if I don't find it would it be fine to use something like Doxycycline instead?

Yes. That's a good antibiotic if you can get it.
It's widely available here, unlike Tylosin unfortunately. I've just come back from a pharmacy and the pharmacist said that he hasn't seen it here before. If I go with Doxycycline then what concentration would be recommended for a baby chick?
