POSSIBLY URGENT VENT PROBLEMS(slightly graphic)

Sorry that the one chicken is worse and losing weight. It sounds like the chick has a prolapse or damage to the vent. Being less active and weak sound like coccidiosis. I had suggested amprollium earlier, but sulfa antibiotics can be used to treat coccidiosis if you can get some. I would give some plain yogurt to soothe the bowel. I would keep trying to get it to eat some wet mushy feed, and give electrolytes and vitamins.

It feels like the worst case scenario has arrived. The chicks vent area seems to be bulging out. The photos won't show this very well and were taken after the bulge had decreased slightly. Im going to go with my father to look for the medicine today. Is there anything else I can do.

Tell us something, does the poop leak out of the vent or does the chick have regular bowel movements?

The abdomen is not swollen, sometimes it does feel as though the poop leaks out of the vent while other times it seems as though it is having regular and proper bowel movements(like it does a squat like motion and the poop comes out). I will hopefully go looking for sulfur antibiotics and amprolium today and put all my chickens on it. Somebody from another thread suggested i post photos of my entire chicken-setup which i will hopefully get to soon.

That's good that it is squatting and having a bowel movement, I was worried the damage had caused a problem where it was leaking all the time.

The skin around the vent and tail is a bit dry, probably from the soakings. I would continue with soaking the vent, it does look like it's healing. After you dry the chick, put something on the vent - do you have coconut oil, vaseline or something similar? Just a little, this will help the poop not stick and soothe the skin.

I do have coconut oil, ill apply a little to its vent area every time i wash it.

This one is the most concerning to me. What does the poop look like?

Can you soak soak your chick's bottom a couple of times a day in salt water. Pat dry, then apply a triple antibiotic ointment on the vent?

Wyorp Rock when you mentioned salt water. Did you mean Epsom salt or another type of salt? Also if I ran out of Epsom salt is it possible to use another type of salt.

Yes, I had meant the epsom salts.
If you have ran out, you can temporarily use a weak salt soak out of regular salt or sea salt.

Will these sulfur antibiotics work. I have looked and found amprolium but it was far too expensive to purchase. I have this powder to be added to water of chickens which has vitamins and antibiotic. The full list of ingredients is here:
