Possum attack

Hope she feels better soon just keep following vet advice and keep things soft and small easy to eat. Wet crumble like mash. Mine love Greek yogurt. Fresh water all the time. I would probably keep electrolytes in water like sav a chick for 5 days then go once a week since not taking much till seems back to normal. This really helps to boost the chick when feeling down. Good Luck! In the meantime working on predator proofing sounds like is needed. 19 gauge 1/2 inch hardware cloth over ventilation windows and run is recommended along with 2 ft apron around coop/run at base of the same. Keep coop/run covered roofed is most recommended. I also use predator lights like nite guard on coop on all sides facing the woods. This seems to work well to scare off predators. My girls are not allowed out unless I am home and out working to watch. I also put my girls in the coop 30 minutes after sunset if they didn’t take themselves in.

Last night my dog had a possum hemmed up and it was "playing possum". I picked him up by the tail and released it on the wildlife refuge just about 2 min. from my home. I noticed a lot of egg shells in the coup. Hopefully that will solve the problem. I've had about 7 good laying hens killed in one night last year. I had live trapped 2 possums around that time. I was outside in the wee hours of the night looking at my coup and out of no where a coyote or large fox came creeping by the coup. I have tried to trap it for a year,no luck yet.I hav e since gotten a German Shepard and she patrols the perimeter. I have a tree limb that hangs over the top of the coup , so I'm assuming the possums are getting in my coup this way. I'll remedy that today. Going to set my live trap tonight as well. will follow up with pics or video , if successful.

2 min from your house really isn't far enough to ensure it won't come back. I'd recommend taking the next one much farther.

Welcome, CP! It helps to add your general location in your profile, for the best responses here.
In many states in the USA, including Michigan, it's only legal to transport most wild critters (there will be a list) on your own property, or to private land within the same county, with landowner permission. This is because of real issues with disease transmission, especially rabies.
It's not legal most places to dump the poor critter into another resident population, especially on public land. Especially on public land! Call your state DNR about this!

I do hope you get that opossum! If you are trapping and releasing, even a possum might wise up and never go into a live trap again! It's best to only trap if you will shoot the offending varmit, otherwise your problem isn't solved, or you send the critter off for another flock to be attacked.
