Possum in the run. Heartbroken

Even though he didn’t get in from the outside necessarily. He kind of got trapped in there while we were ceiling it they are now going to be forced to sleep inside the coop. They’re not gonna like it but I’m sure they didn’t like this morning either. It’s going to be tough to get my rooster in there. He has a no touch rule And I respect that. When I look at his spurs I have to respect that. LOL he’s very respectful he’ll even move out of my way if I’m headed in that direction. Never trained him he’s just like that. It will be hard but he’s getting in there to

At night, is he on a roost you can reach? Grabbing them once they roost is so much easier. You could also take out any roosting spots in the run making it so they go in the coop to roost.

If he wasn’t trapped there is no other way another one can get under there. What we have it closed up with there is no way. And with no damage to the fencing on the run at all we knew he had to of been trapped under there when we originally closed it Off. The door to the run is always closed. When we let them out to free range it a mediately gets close behind them. Plus even on the inside of the run I am going to proof it just like the outside. Even though no more can get in I’m just paranoid. Yes at tractor supply I’m just going to check the price. I would go online and do that but there are about a mile from where I work. And the manager at the one I go to actually has suggested other places with just as good or better products for a lower price. She also has chickens and in an area with predators. But like I said even though he didn’t necessarily make it in after we had everything sealed up I know that I’m still going to spend an hour every night checking everything while putting them up

No it’s too high up for me and my husband can just barely reach it. But I’m thinking if his ladies are in there he’ll want in. He doesn’t like when they’re out of his sight at all. He goes crazy

Before purchasing at TSC, do your homework and some comparison shopping at Premier 1. You can buy a charger that runs from solar power, household current, or a deep cycle 12V battery. Spend the extra money to buy a powerful charger. Also, look at the electronetting that Premier 1 carries. This may greatly expand your poultry housing/fencing options.
Don’t know if I could afford that much electro netting though I would like to But hot wire or something of that nature definitely going to go for. Thank you for letting me know there is battery operated. That might be a good option until we can afford the solar one. We are replacing subfloor in my house as we right now from a flood so Money got tighter they are very expensive but want to solor one for several reasons. But it’s good knowing that I can at least go battery operated for right now

Even a standard car battery will hold a charge for quite a while. If you have a battery charger, you could make do with that. A few fiberglass fence posts, or even the insulators that you attach to an existing fence post, a spool of "tape", and a charger, and ground rod, and you'll be good to go. Yes, it's expensive, no matter how you do it. But, the cost is not as painful as having your flock decimated by predators.

Yes we’re going to spring for at least the battery one now because it is very much worth it and the expenses indent they worry problem it’s that we’ve already spent money on home repairs for our flood situation. Once that’s done I’m going to up it to the solar powered. the fence posts I have are actually four by fours because we have the Fencing over head. Would it be OK for it to be hooked to wood?

:hit:hit:hit When I started my car this morning to leave for work I heard some noise in the chicken run as I started down there it sounded a little more high pitched and frantic and my rooster wasn’t crowing but making very odd noises. As I went down there I could see chickens on the ground running through the run. They never do that at 5 AM and my cat was running all around the run trying his darndest to get in. When I saw the rooster on the ground and not roosting I called from my husband and a better flashlight. Then I knew then something wasn’t right. I could barely see with the shotty flashlight I had with me. He was still in there to trying his hardest to get out. He’s out of there now. Guaranteed we won’t be seeing him again. I’ve always been so proud how are run is like Fort Knox so this was definitely unexpected. Heartbreaking to say the least. Lost one of my 22 week old Easter Egger and one of my three-year-old Rhode Island Reds was ripped down the stomach up to the vent with I’m not sure what hanging out with her. The injuries were too bad for her to be able to make it.
NO!!!:hit:hugs I’m so sorry for you Rachel :hit

We live in the country and our chickens free ranged, one morning I let them out early and was working in an out building. I heard squawking and I ran outside, there standing next to the field was a coywolf. He killed one and severely injured another but I was able to nurse it back to life and now she's doing fine. We found the leg band (we have 24 Black Stars) of the chicken the chicken the coywolf killed (we have 24 Black Stars) in the woods with teeth marks. We lost another to a hawk two months later:he I know how you feel.:hit

You will need to buy the special plastic insulators that are attached to the wood that "stand the wire" out away from your posts and existing metal fencing.

Do some on line pricing before spending the money locally. You will most likely save a bundle if you order from Amazon or Premier 1.
