Possum in the run. Heartbroken

I am going to get a solor one after I get my house is repaired and my daughter has a floor in her room again. There’s a couple of other places I would like to add it to keep the goats out of along with keeping the chicken safe. For right now it will have to be battery-operated. These bear sightings are becoming more often and frequent. Doesn’t really surprise me that they are there running out of places to go. I absolutely love a black bear One of the most gorgeous creatures in my eyes. But I would not like them dining up on my chickens. And electric is the only way to go for bear
Amazon is definitely one of the places I am checking. I believe they sell premier one also. I’ve always heard that brand first

Rachel, what ever you do, don't skimp on the power of the charger. You will most likely only be buying one charger, so get one that will give a powerful jolt to even a bear, instead of just tickling his nose!!!

When it comes to predator proof and I try not to mess around. I figure the strongest is the best especially for a bear. Black bear May not be as aggressive as say a grizzly bear but still very capable of taking a small shock and getting over it. It will take quite a shock to get them to pay attention

I just wish people in my area would quit going around in the middle of the night through the woods with flashlights looking for this bear. I just don’t understand it one guy stumbled on my property at about 4 AM with a flashlight in my woods looking for the bear. So I asked him so when you find the bear what are you gonna do. He didn’t really have an answer

Yes I’m about to start a thread about maybe the best type of wire and set up for what I’ve got set up to make sure I get it right and get everything I need. I just got home from work and I can definitely tell my rooster was doing his job. To the best of his abilities. Missing a lot of tailfeathers a couple scars and scratches but nothing serious. Don’t know if it’s been like this all day but ever since I’ve been home he’s been crowing nonstop. Is this normal? I know he’s not hurt

Oh my God. I got home and my hen was inside the coop My husband left me a note that said she’s been walking around and has been drinking water. He didn’t feel right to culling her if I could go on backyard chickens and try to save her. She’s very alert but there’s something hanging out of her. I’m going to post a thread so anybody who could maybe help me if she’s got the chance please chime in. Sometimes I know his heart is in the right place but I don’t know where his head is. He Said he tried to call somehow I didn’t get it

If he wasn’t trapped there is no other way another one can get under there. What we have it closed up with there is no way. And with no damage to the fencing on the run at all we knew he had to of been trapped under there when we originally closed it Off. The door to the run is always closed. When we let them out to free range it a mediately gets close behind them. Plus even on the inside of the run I am going to proof it just like the outside. Even though no more can get in I’m just paranoid. Yes at tractor supply I’m just going to check the price. I would go online and do that but there are about a mile from where I work. And the manager at the one I go to actually has suggested other places with just as good or better products for a lower price. She also has chickens and in an area with predators. But like I said even though he didn’t necessarily make it in after we had everything sealed up I know that I’m still going to spend an hour every night checking everything while putting them up
I don't think you should spend all that extra money, you said before that your coop is like Fort Knox.... I think it was just a 'fluke' that the opossum got to your chickens this time. It happens, we make mistakes. But right now I think you are just in a state of shock and willing to take out the checkbook for anything and everything to maybe ease a little of the pain you are going through. I mean, it's up to you...... I'm a penny pincher so, it even pains me when others are spending their money on elaborate uneccessary things, hahaha. :p Not saying an electric wire fence is overdoing it but, you did say your setup is like Fort Knox.
