POST OFFICE LOST RESCUED BIRDS!

Hey, you did the best you all knew how at the time. We all learn from our mistakes.

For now, just hang on and have faith that all will be ok. They've been through a lot, and I'm sure they are pretty tough birds because of it. They have more of a chance than some pampered bird to make it ok.

Thank you, Lone Cowboy, but I find that playing the high and mighty after everything Deb has been through a little much to take. We are all praying that they arrive safely tomorrow. Each and every post office en route has been notified to open the box and give them water...if they are found.

Has anyone called the Express shipping office or the airport that they were supposed to leave from? Folks, this is where you have to be focused..not on the PO. They can't do anything for these birds now..they are either at an airline dock or a FEDEX plane. I would be all over FEDEX.

I am sorry you are going through this, but please use this as an educational opportunity for anyone who may ever ship. Always provide food. As was said, nothing is a guarantee and a little piece of apple could mean life or death in this situation.

I was told from our PO - all Express is now 2nd day. They won't even guarantee next day anymore because they had to keep refunding people's money.

Jody

Oh I hope they make it OK. I'm sorry, but somehow I smell a rat. (intuition?)

No offence to anyone, but I hope everything works out. Especially for the birds.

Dont let this one incident prevent you shipping birds...many good breeders do ship their birds even for shows across the country. Your next shipping, it may not even happen again. Believe it or not, baby chicks you get from the hatchery goes the same thing as the big birds go thru.

Read up and ask many questions about shipping birds, some of us are pretty knowledgeable about it and keep tabs on your PO and check out the bird shippers association on the updates on shipping poultry.

I am glad I had experience in shipping birds and all of my birds came thru just fine even all the way to upper NY state. I would do it again.

So please next time, dont overstress yourself .... the birds will be fine as mine did. I would buy birds from out of state and if Jody got a lovely BO girl, I would not hestitate to ask her to ship the girl to me knowing of all the risks and dangers involved. If it bothers you alot about shipping birds, then you will have to settle to pass up the offer or to buy the bird and go for hatching eggs instead.

So keep us posted and hope they arrive tomorrow!

I just wanted to let you know I'm crossing my fingers for you. Me and a fellow byc'er that I got birds from just went throuhg this YESTERDAY! Luckily the birds made it to me alive and well this AM after being lost in the postal system and sent to the wrong city! Keep your hopes up!

First of all...let me say....When I contacted the PO, I asked about adding fruit/food/treats. I was told under NO circumstances was I allowed to add fruit, or food of any kind. The new boxes have a window in the top, that the postal worker can open and see inside...and I was told IF i put food of ANY kind in there, they would refuse the shipment. Now, I KNOW they needed food of some sort....i am in NO way stupid.....I have never shipped birds before, and I was doing what I was told was the RULES!! I do hope that by saying....you smell a rat....you are referring to the PO, or Express Mail. I have done everything " by the book" just trying to make sure these babies make it to thier new forever home. The stress of this is almost unbearable...I have nurtured these babies from terrible health...to strong healthy little chickens. If by chance....you think that by belittleing me...and blameing me for this makes you feel better....well..im sorry. I tried...I did what I thought was right, by following " RULES"

I smell a rat with the delivery service. From my own experience, I hope it works out well with your delivery. I ordered my birds in Feb and went directly to the P.O. and told them to call me and I will pick up. they said OK. but it was the middle of May and HOT and they delivered my birds in a cardboard box and they were HOT. Luckily someone was home to get them in the house.

Justusnak - No not you, the shipping service I'm suspicious of. Sorry for any misunderstanding. After all that work, and it gets messed up!

Wow, what stupid rules. Hey, stop blaming yourselves. You did NOTHING WRONG. You did EVERYTHING RIGHT. It's not your fault the post office screwed things up.

This reminds me of what happened when my grandfather and grandmother died. It was an accidently homicide and sucide (grandma tried to get the gun away from grandpa because it accidently went off while cleaning, she pulled it toward her to get it away, and it went off and killed her. He killed himself) Problem was, my father was named after his father, he was a JR. So when the news hit the radio, people would call my dad and make rude comments that he killed his wife. I guess they didn't listen close enough to the news report. Here this man is going through the grief of losing his mother and father (not to mention his son just a 2 month earlier and mother in law a month earlier) and people where calling to rub salt in the wound. What makes them judge and jury anyway.

Suffice it to say, I'm crossing my fingers for your birds. May everything turn out alright. I'll be watching for a happy out come.

Deniece

Luna, thanks...my mind is in a flurry right now....I wont be able to sleep...knowing they are lost out there somewhere. I just feel so stupid for trusting the postal service! This is not a small box...there are 3 chickens in there...HOW does someone LOSE a box with chickens!???
