That is so weird, that is a golden right?
mine is lighter than that.

Yes, he is a Golden Duckwing, but I got him from MPC, so he is hatchery quality. He has a great personality and will perch on my shoulder. That is the only reason why I still have him.

LOL i think phoenix have great personalitys.
so is that why he is darker?

I am working on makeing me some blacks and mottled or splash phoenix.
so far pretty good.
i am crossing my phoenix with my white faced black spanish,
so far the chicks are comeing out looking like mottled, so i am hopeing they dont carry the white face , lol

If you really want to out cross to make new phoenix colors, the dutch will be your best bet to use. There will be less stuff to correct for with them in the long run.
Let us know how the mottled turn out, that would be beautiful in a phoenix. Just hatched a few black and blue cuckoos myself as well as about 6 other colors, cant wait to see them all grown up!

nope she is not mottled, she is pure black.
my phoenix that are in with her are

hmmm dutch.
whats funny is i did not plan on doing this, i had put her in with my phoenix for another lady until i get more phoenix hens and then i sadi you know what lets give this try. so we will see once they get older, i will take pics of them on monday to show you guy sthe white and black comeing in on teh feathers.

please do that would be cool to see.
And yep, Dutch is what most of the "big guy" phoenix breeders use in their flocks to create their new colors, takes about 3 generations to work out the ducth is all instead of 4-8 like other breed crosses.
Cant wait to see what you ended up with though!!

Yes I would love to see as well. Though I dont think you can get true mottling since the parents arent mottled or even carry the gene, but it may be an interesting cross none the less.

Ok so we showed 3 of phoenix today at the boston poultry expo, and they very well.
