He looks good. He sure does have some wide tail feathers!

Is that good or bad? It could be because some of them are growing back, my husband grabbed his tail when he got out, not knowing half of his tail would come out as easily as they did.

He must have been getting ready to molt if they came out real easy. I think he looks good, you don't see too many with wide feathers. I can't remember who's line of birds but there is someone around with some great birds with wide feathers like that. His color is good, if anything would like too see a little more saddle but I bet he fills back in pretty good!

Comment on blood feathers. Blood feathers are very easy to pull out. Takes little pressure. Also, I see alot of cotton on the rooster with the wide feathers. I would guess he is not in blood feather. Usually you don't have that much "cotton" (the fluff on his back) on blood feathers. Have you checked him to see if his feather bases on the tail are dry?

That is ture....some of CY's birds have those thick ribbons. go back and look at the black/gold one I have from him. Yes seeing Toni was great, she is awesome, and a joy to spend some time with, everyone could learn a lot from her. And my God the birds are to die for

Will get the ol camera out as soon as I get a chance. Brought home some very nice NM birds, as well as those Schubert Blacks from Marc's imports she had for me, that are still pure to the oringinal imports. Some lavender barred, dun, a project dun sumatra, 1 fibro male so I can work with those a bit. and a pair from Roger's line of excellent birds, a cream/ginger hen and a goshiki roo.

I'm not really sure how to do that, I don't think I would know the difference. I'll tell you one thing, he can fly like crazy, and he is a good boy, not too friendly but will get in the nest box with a hen and help take care of babies.

yep I agree, only thing I would want would be better saddles, but he may just be young??

He's maybe almost a year old. I have a question, his lady set some eggs, and I have 5 bbr chicks. 3 have longer tails already and are lighter and 2 are more reddish with no tails. Which ones are boys and which are girls?

Thanks for the feedback, I am new to the breed.

Sounds like a good boy. I will see if I can get a pic of blood feathers later on.

Aubrey, glad you had a good time with Toni. She is a sweet, caring, giving lady. She has always had a big generous heart. And she does have some beautiful birds!!!

pullets feather faster so those are your hens, the darker short tailed ones will be your cockerels

It's esay to see blood feathers. You know what a pin feather looks like right?
The quil at the base will be soft and dark colored (blue looking) if it's hard it'll be white
Simply catch the bird and spread the feathers open til you can see where they go into the skin, it'll be obvious to you then.
Like onag said earlier, on white birds they'll be pinkish, on all colored birds blue, works the same on the saddles they are just tuffer to get to, on the back
