I have a question. I know it's a little early, but can't help counting my chickens before they hatch. How soon can you tell if a phoenix chick is male or female? Please tell me it's something simple like sex linked color or feather sexing...lol.
At a month old the white started to grow in on the breast of the boy, and the girls were getting the salmon feathers. I have SDW so it may vary by variety.
That's a great question! I've been wondering about that too but haven't been able to find any info online. I did find one sight that said you could start telling them apart at a few weeks old, when the cockerels combs start developing. I feel impatient when I say that's a long time to wait- but then again, I'm not sure about trying my hand at vent sexing either. I hope someone more knowledgeable gets back to you on this![]()
cool. Thank youYes at 1 month, you can tell for sure. Combs and by breast color. In males I look for black/white breast in females I look for white/salmon. For silvers usually white on breast is female and black or black with white is male. In golden black or black with red or goldish colring in breast is male, and salmon is female. I've also been told a broken line by the eye differentiates the sex but I dont remember if broken or solid is male.
