Post Phoenix Pics Please

HEY EVERYONE!!!!!!

Just wanted to share, I went to the Amish the other day....
I fell in love with some of their BBreds there.... I can honestly say, I have never seen as nice of a phoenix pullet or cockerel before....

They pullets.... their tails were already dragging..... She had saddles as well... hackles

Can anyone explain to me, why was she so nice?!!!!!
They would not sell them sadly... I was so mad

Has anyone ever had such nice pullets before ?

Myself, Amanda, and Toni I know have hens like that. Just one of those genetic things. They do seem to produce very nice males if you dont get sterile ones. So far, none of mine have been, but I do have a blue gold that lays a ton of those little dime sized eggs.
Often after an adult molt that feathering will go away and just be a normal looking hen. Some hang on to it though. They are usually spurred too by the way. Shame they wouldnt sell you any. I got a nice birchen pullet coming along that other than color you'd swear was a cockerel. And Toni sent me an Ismer Silver this spring that is still keeping that cocky look to her. I love 'em when they look that way, and love breeding off them.

I am in love.... you have no clue
I had dreams about it (I'm such a loser)

Is it just like probability and chances that you'll get those nice hens/pullets?

I sooooooo want one now.

Micheal,

I think you may have the same thing going that I have out of the Hyde White bantams I have. They look silver pyle, but dont breed out that way for me. Males are solid white, hens are white with the salmon breast. But these breed as recessives for me...

It looks like out of the 3 pullets, one is really starting to wash out in breast color, almost like orange stained now. One still has good breast color but her type isn't there, almost more like a dutch x phoenix looking thing right now. I am thinking that I will just breed them to a light brown cockerel in the spring. If it is dominant white, they should be mostly white/pyle with some normal, right? If they are a recessive white acting funny, they should throw a couple whites but mostly normal. The cockerels I will be breeding them to are also from the same line, just different mother but they also carry recessive white.

All the cockerels tails are coming in great since we finally have them separated from the crazy feather picking sumatra cockerels. As soon as I have a full day off, I will take some pics. It is crazy busy here with culling, being gone from home for 12 hours a day for work and never having a mutual day off with anyone here, then taking 'me time' to go to the lake house and visit with friends, and making a million trips to get feed for all the birds. After fair season is done, I will finally be able to breath. Next week I judge a couple fairs, then a weekend off before our county fair that I live at for the 12 days it runs, then state fair, then it is fall break time before a couple shows.
Sorry about the ramble, my fingers get carried away when typing at night, lol

yep Micheal, for the most part, you are going about the test the right way sounds like, and pretty much right on what all to expect. If they are recessive, and you cross to duckwings or anything, you should get no whites at all unless the duckwing carry a copy of recessive white. If you know for a fact they dont then it will be eaiser to determine. That's how I went about testing these. It's been kinda odd to me, they feather just like silver pyles, but will not make a pyle bird when out crossed to another duckwing color. They sure are pretty though...

I'll have to dig around and see if I have any old ones. A lot of these loose that after their first adult molt, so current ones of them would look different. I havent taken any yet of this years batch. I usually do that in the fall once all the other birds are back in feather from their molts.

I'm pretty sure I have posted some on this thread or the other phoenix thread cant remember. and I know Amanda has posted several.

Yes it's one of those things that occur with them. You of course have much better odds at getting more like it from a line that carries it. Backyard/ hatchery style birds will virtually never do it. All mine that do it are from Toni's stock , and 1 other lady, but I think they originated from Toni's too if it were traced back. Spurred hens are the best to look for, as the adults often chage feathering over time, but those spurs will always be there

I got phoenix pullets the other day. Cutest things. Lay tiny tinted eggs. Can anyone tell me if they are decent quality birds? I'm guessing they are silver colored... not sure..

Sorry about how far away they are. I will get closeups in the morning.
