SC has run out of grant money. I am due for AI testing the end of this month at a fee of $250, plus travel, if I wish to keep AI clean. I will pass until fall, when hopefully there will be more grant $, and my T-P teasting is due. As more states feel the squeeze, it will really hurt the showsthat require AI testing such as N.C.Mine has been pretty much same time every year, give or take a week.have to get all of the cages together and ready..![]()
Since they have been testing here for so many years they only test a certain percentage of birds. Like 10. they always test anything new too. It doesn't cost me a thing but time. I always catch and hold the birds for them so they dont' get upset with stranger.
Bill... you got some Butterballs dude... lolLets stir up some activity on this thread.
Just put the old cock out with some of the hens. 3 are hens and one is the Akers pullet.
It will be down to the middle teens tonite and tomorrow. As an old farmer told me, once their combs are frost bitten there's no worrying about that happening again.
Here is one of his boy from last year. I have 10 of them most all are still indoors safe and away from the cold.

This past year for the first time they didnt band any of the tested birds. He may not have had any of the Turkey bands with him. They have always told me to take the off if I thought they were to tightEach state has their own protocol. All breeding age (5mos and over) have to be tested every yr. This was the first yr.. out of the 3 we have been testing that the old bands stayed on.
The young lady that came to do the actual testing was very surprised at how big my kids are... to funny..she says " Your birds fill out my turkey bands better than most of the turkeys do'" LOL
