I need some advice quick if possible. I have some orph chicks I need sexed. I'm just not sure. The older 3 are almost 3 months old and the 3 younger ones are about 6 or 8 weeks. Older ones first. One refused to let me get a head shot.

Hi from Ga. Your question is almost as hard to answer as why the chicken crossed the road.

I have had luck sexing at 1- 4 days old then at about 5 months. A good friend of mine says to lay them on their back in your hand if they stay quietly their female if they roll over their male. I don't know how much stock I put in that method. But what the heck its better than nothing and you have a 50% chance of being right.

Somebody is suppose to be here in less than an hour to look at them to buy and I want to make sure I don't sell at least 2 girls. I hatched them out so I could have mates for my roo. I don't want to start all over. I'm thinking I have 2 girls in the lav older ones and 1 girl out of the black younger ones. I can usually tell at this age but 2 of them have lav combs. I have another out of the older ones that is black and i'm sure it's a boy. He already has the irridescent feathers and hackle feathers.

Hi from Ga. Sorry I can't be of more help. We have Australian Light Sussex , Buff Orpingtons Lavender Orpingtons, Black Orpingtons, 1 Lemon Cuckoo Orpington Roo fpr mating wiyh our Buffs. Being that they are still a project, many fill fool you for a very long time, like till they crow or lay an egg, even with a bigger comb size it still could be a pullet. I have had some even at five and six months old that could still go either way.

syble, your 2 white ones are boys. It's a little harder to tell on your blue ones, but I think I see 2 boys and 2 girls.

ll - your black is a boy.

emvickrey - in your last 3 pics - I would guess boy, girl, girl. On the 1st 3 pics, I'm not sure. It gets tough to tell at that age until the boys grow their saddle feathers or start to crow. If I had to guess, I would say 3 girls, based on the comb. At 12 wks, boys are usually pretty bright red by then, but there are exceptions to that.

thanks! I think there are 4 males and 3 females? something like that.females are all blues. I may hang onto them for breeding with a good black male if they turn out with decent type. What do you guys think?
