Post pics of stock from Ideal Poultry please !!

Pics
the birds do reinforce that they are not good quality since my kids show, it shows that ideal's birds would not be a good choice for them even for 4-h along with reading all the other reviews. i love them as my yard ornaments though and you can see baby pics in my albums. they are very sweet and good natured just not good for my kids and 4-h though. mine are 7 months old now and i am still waiting for he first egg from them lol i'm not expecting any till next year though
tongue.png
will be hatching some out as well such as my golden necks eggs, i need pullets/hens for grow out pens. then in 2014 i can officially start my project with d'uccle and silkies (silked d'uccle).
big_smile.png
and seeing pics of silkies and reading about the silkie stock detours me from buying the silkies, i don't need them to look perfect but if i am going to have them might as well show them to lol dont get me wrong there are some nice silkies on here but not enough to convince me to get them from ideal though.

i would get dual purpose breeds from them even though they do show some color faults but over all look great. might get some cuckoo marans from them since i just picked up a rooster of the breed. i plan on getting some oegb because that breed seems to turn out just fine.

i do see that most breeds that have more complicated feather patterns such as millie fleur, mottled, and such seem to have the worse end of the coloring, i don't know why might have to do with the way they have to breed their birds to turn out so many chicks each year. while the simpler colors like blk breasted red, wheaten, and Colombian all seem to turn out better color wise. doesn't apply to all of the birds that are turned out from ideal as with any other source it's a hit and miss sorta thing if your not buying adults already. this is an over all review on ideals stock not singling anyone out.

Oriental breeds not so much since hatcheries are about production it's hard to get a good looking Oriental breed from one but cackle has done a pretty good job at that though. i will be getting some bantams from them next year maybe after i have ordered and paid for hatching eggs (bantam rir, bantam phoenix, and bantam cornish).

i dont even remember writing that it was so late at night or should i say early in the morning here sorry.

I meant call duck ducklings. I haven't found any hatcheries or breeders who will ship out day old call ducks or other bantam duck breeds. As for silkies, while I think that hatchery stock of most birds is usually decent, I wouldn't ever buy silkies from any of the hatcheries. You are better of finding someone local or purchasing hatching eggs from someone with stock that they show/bred with. Call ducks are another breed, along with Ameracaunas in chickens, that you have to be cautious with getting....not what you were looking for...when ordering from a hatchery.

My kids show as well, so I usually stick with birds from local breeders, but I totally see the appeal of hatcheries AND I also know adults and kids who have won with hatchery stock before.

those are my parents pens. mine are cooped at night and let out in the mornings to free range unless i am having a predator problem. lol i should take full shots of the pens then you will see more mud...they are 7 ft wide and like 40 feet long i think give or take some as i'm not quite sure. they are going to half these pens and separate the birds by breeds next year

the last 7 pics are birds from cackle

this pic has an ideal sebright in it my little sis has shown her 3 times for 4-h she didn't place that good and got only participation

I am honestly a little bit confused as to what has people's feelings hurt. Breed standards are a set quantifiable thing, are they not? The bird either meets them or does not and generally hatchery birds do not. Correct? Is this just a word choice issue?

If you have a breed standard bird from this hatchery I could see this being a good opportunity to disagree and tell people about your good experience but it doesn't really seem like anything personal or attacking nor a comment on how much a person likes their pets. I am not sure where feelings are involved here.

My pug is the most poorly bred pug I have ever seen. I didn't rescue her to show her or because I wanted a pure bred dog. If you walk up to me and say wow, that is the worst bred pug I have seen in my life I would: why yes. yes she is.

It's not that hard to understand... Your pug is the joy of your heart. Don't tell me you don't feel put out when people say how bad she looks.

I really honestly don't. Compared to pug standard she looks terrible. This is simply a fact. She is extremely far off standard. I do not feel like this fact detracts from her many positive qualities or reflects at all on my person.

Ya, I'm only a kid myself. Freshman in school. But I love chickens! What's your fav breed, and your best hatchery? I'm going to order birds this Feb from Cackle. Are they good birds?
i try to use breeders but the best hatchery i have used was cackle but hear wonderful things about mcmurray and welp (could be spelled whelp not quite sure though) and plan to try them out one year. my kids love them all but i am a bantam person and my favs would have to be the d'uccle and silkies. though all of mine but my porcelain don't look as nice as i want them to though, they are a work in progress...the ones i posted from cackle above are ornamental (sumatra's and yokohama's) if these look as good as they do you can pretty much guess the others do to. i know my parents got others from cackle but i do not remember which others it was or i would post their pics as well

Guys, I know others are just asking about other hatchery birds, but there is a forum for that. Is it okay that I request this stay "Pics of Ideal Poultry"? I know the other ones have their own thread. I also, would love to see what other places have to offer, but would prefer to go to that thread
big_smile.png
and keep this one for what it is, the good, bad and ugly (but lovable). Please take no offense, I seriously don't mean this in any mean way.

All I am saying is this thread is for pictures of Ideal Poultry, commenting on the pics, is of course fine and welcome. However, if someone wants to post pictures of other places birds each Hatchery has there own thread, there are also threads where people are talking about the pros and cons of each place. I am just requesting we keep this one on track, that is it, nothing more nothing less. Hope that makes sense, it does in my head, but then again I can still hear screaming kids, so that does not mean to much.
