Roosters, even the more docile breeds, can make good flock defenders. My Silkie roo can be a liiittle overprotective at times though. He isn't full on aggressive, but when I cuddled the hen for a bit... The rooster was angry with me petting the hen at first and pecked my arm, even though she was making no signs of distress and just flapped her wings as she hopped onto my arm, the same one he pecked, so I pulled him into a cuddle. The hen was being a sweet cuddle bug, trying to climb under me after hopping off my arm while enjoying the petting, while the rooster, now seeing how I wasn't a threat to the hen or him, was tolerating the pets and cuddles I was giving him too, quietly muttering to his mate who was snuggling against me.Me too!
Plus me and my dad were having issues waking up in the mornings, and the rooster helped solve that.
