post your chicken coop pictures here!

You know, you don't have to go out and spend several thousand dollars on a shed to keep them in... You can check Craigs List for used sheds or even large dog houses that can be re-purposed. If there are any manufacturing companies around or nearby, you can possibly get large wood packing crates to start out as a basic framework, or pallets and start there. Also there are "green" re-purposing establishments that sell used windows and doors, wood, lumber, as well as all manner of other items. If there's one near you, you could see what they have available. Maybe you have friends or family that could help you?

On the coop pages on this site, there are hundreds or maybe thousands of coops that folks have built that you can look at for inspiration. Many were built for just the cost of hardware and all re-purposed materials... Others look like penthouse suites that may have cost a layman's yearly wage to create and build.

And of course there's everything in-between.

Anyway, I hope you'll keep us up on what and how your doing as time passes. As I said before, we all love pictures too.

@Deleon98,

@Latestarter, @cabinchicky pretty much answer your q on chicken math. I've just checked your location, your in FL, much easier to "whip something up" you don't have the cold weather to deal with. As @Sylvester017 was showing on JackE coop ventilation is a key- you can have an open concept as long as protected from predators.
Few months ago, when I added 2nd 10x12 run, I chicken wired the top and left a 4' open connecting the 2 runs together since the 1st run has a pitched clear roof.
A hawk swooped inside the run early in the morning, my chickens normally are all hovering the door of the run to greet me, non to be found except a flying predator trying to get out. Smart hens! 4 filed up on the back of the stack of nests squeezing thru 5" gaps. The rests were inside the coop hiding since I keep the pop door open all the time for them to go in and out. Luckily none got hurt, but learned more security needed. Never seen owls before until we have chicken, there's couple on the trees making their coo sound @night thinking they can get in.

On impulse chicks buying, I was lost in a local store trying to buy dog food when I heard chirping. Big mistake! looking inside the bins and picking up one of them to look closely. I've never seen baby chicks that close since I was a kid. I wanted to buy 2 to surprise my kids, but I guess ohio regulation you have to have 6? End up going home with 10

. Now we have 21 and will be adding 6-10 more yet.

Haha XD chickens are an all new new for me and i keep on thinking omg i cant believe i freakin have chickens but after the excitement comes the worry cause theres so much i dont know about them

I'm all out of "likes" for the day (kinda stupid that BYC limits them after you've been on the site for over a year... I mean really? Jeeeze) otherwise I would have like both posts by @Spartan22 & @Cluckies above.

Ha ha ha, seriously? Didn't know they limit the thumbs up lol. You know for some reason too I can't post photos from my handheld lately. Maybe that's also limited?

Yes I am on my 3rd winter with chickens and this site and the ppl on it have taught me so much! you may need to search some or ask but help is here. Oh and on the chicken math bit, you start with what you think will work then try new layers and keep adding and changing and adding and ohhhh my look feathered feet!!hubby doesn't know yet but guinea are coming this year too. May need to expand the run again.
