post your chicken coop pictures here!

Ok... The sand, yes damp but will dry out, seems cool. I came home and found 5 more eggs in the box... Sadly I then found 3 more eggs under the roost so the move has them scrambled a little as to where to lay.

What do you suggest? Should I put hardware cloth up over it? I was thinking of putting Latisse up but then it would block the view of the chickens

You don't really need hardware cloth the entire height of the coop. That would be very expensive among other things. The primary reason for it down low is to keep raccoons from reaching through and grabbing a bird or a fox or dog etc from chewing through the chicken wire to get one. If the HC is 3' up the sides and you have some sort of protective apron around the outside to prevent diggers, you have the biggest issues covered. Raccoons can climb, and once above the HC, could reach through, but as long as there are no roosts etc right next to the sides of the coop, there would be no place for the chickens to be within reach of a coon or any other animal reaching through. I WOULD replace the chicken wire or cover it but I would use basic welded wire fencing attached with poultry staples.

This will protect your birds from all but the most determined predator.

BIG lesson learned today.... Be careful of the lock on the coop.... You might need to make an unorthodox escape hatch

Ha! Can definitely see myself doing this.

Quick! Drill a hole and add a sturdy string from the lock to the inside. Tie a bolt to the end to prevent it from pulling back through.

My drill is dead... Charging battery now... I'm just glad my husband isn't here to say I told you so... I told HIM I wouldn't do it. I did. Shhhh don't tell him.

I saw a guy on youtube who did the same thing. He drilled a small hole in the door above the latch and tied a piece of cloths line wire through the hole in the latch and ran it into the hole in the door. The then tied a not so it could not slip back out the hole. Then he could pull the wire from the inside and unhook the latch.

first thing I did on my aviarys because at the store the told me a story about a fellow who came home from work a bit early so decided to tend his parakeets.... six by six walk in aviary. YEP.... he was there three hours later when his wive came home.....
