post your chicken coop pictures here!

Some of ya'lls coops are nicer than my house. I literally scrapped together all the wood I had on hand from old projects and used old screens from my parents' old house because the chicken wire didn't want to cooperate with me. Needless to say, my coop is like the trailer park of chicken coops, but at least it's roomy and they're ok with it.

I feel ya, believe it or not mine is entirely free wood other than the couple pieces from the restore and cull bin at Home Depot. The only reason I ended up with the shed was my husband decided I asked to many building questions and it was easier just to give up his junk shed. The only stuff I really paid for was the hardware and paint... And I guess the babysitting so I could get it done since building with a toddler is not ideal

thanks guys! yes, they're very addicting to raise. I bought 3 about two months ago, and now i have 11.

Yes I said about this a few times but anyways I was told no more than 3 and then I somehow ended up with 7 hen we travel on up to getting six from tractor supply and then we go farther and I got four silkies to start breeding and I am getting a buff Orpington hen and then I am getting three more silkies. so when I get rid of the roosters from tractor supply I will have about 20 chickens and possibly still counting being that I am starting to breed them so I need to go and get started on the new coop. O wait I forgot to mention I hatched out two this spring also

I'm going on line today to look it up but does anyone know, from research, how much the average large size chicken drinks in a day? My 22 birds, including 4 turkeys, are drinking a little less than a gallon a day by my best estimate. I'm using a 2 gal pail about 3/4 full per trip to fill the pipe and today, after about 2 days, it took most of it. I haven't kept track of time or time of day etc. so it's not a scientific analysis but it looks like my system will sustain them for roughly a week. I would think they drink more than that. Maybe the comment about them needing water every day or they will die is correct. If that is all they drink, they don't have any reserves, eh?

They seem to be healthy enough and I've seen them all banging away on the nipples, 6 or 8 or 10 at a time so they are all using it and the turkeys like the horizontal ones. I watched one go down the line and try all 4 on one trip.

According to one farm forum source they drink 25 oz/day. By that measure, 22 birds should be drinking 4.5 gal/day. Seems a little high to me. I'm just a little nervous about them using the nipples as the only source. The doc said one nipple can handle about 6 full size chickens so I have plenty of them available. It's fun to watch them when "drinking time" is happening. They all seem to get thirsty at the same time :) I'm going to keep a record for a week or so just to see what mine are actually drinking and then do some more research but sounds like mine are roughly drinking the same as yours.

One interesting note in that article was that if they don't get enough water they won't eat and mine are eating me out of house and home so.........
