Ugh all these beautiful coops are making me sad...I just want a nice one already! Lol mine does the job but the only roosts my girls have are outside their box (everything is inside an 8x8 dog kennel, and the girls' "apartment" is below the rabbits') so there's not a whole lot of room for them right now =/
Things will get better...the main thing is for them to be protected and safe...when you can get hold of some salvaged wood, you can begin planning for your "new"coop! Here is an example of what you can do with salvaged wood...Working on the run...digging/setting poles and then will pull the wire... The roofing panels are new bought, the plaque was on clearance, I have the hardware bought although I will probably have to buy more of that!!! That's the most expensive part of the coop, so buy a roll a little all along to it won't hit you all at once!!
You could also began stocking up on paving stones unless you have access to some decent size rocks to line the outside of the fence to deter predator digging....Mine isn't "beautiful" but its mine and I built most of it myself..
The person who said they were going to build it quit coming after framing it... oh well...It's safe for my ladies.. I'll gradually get it done. Tomorrow I hope to begin the the wire after finishing the last post and quickcreting it. My hopes anyway...

Thank you so much.. you made me feel so good about my efforts.!!
Those planks are 1x10's or 1x12's....they came from an old shed that the guy took down. He got to keep the lumber which he immediately brought over and piled in my yard to start building... I love them..
.It is actually harder to work with because its never really even and some of them have a bow in it.. BUT...the most important part.."IT WAS FREE"..!!!
I understand your frustration. We had a nice 8'x8' framed out ready to put the walls up when a tree came crashing down destroying everything... We only had enough whole pieces to make a 4'x5' coop with is WAY to small for our 10 birds...
Now that we've finally got supplies to build a larger 8'x4' coop my husband is dragging his feet, the rain keeps us from working or, like this past weekend, one or both of us or the kids are sick with end of summer colds!!!!
.Yea, 4x5' is way too small for 10 birds but you do what you need to do with what you have at the time!!! The rain has held me up from working on my run.. My poor girls have literally been "cooped" up all summer..
I've kept fans on them and ice in the water....everything. I "rebuilt" my run door yesterday because I wasn't satisfied with the sturdiness of the original. One of so many rebuilding...learning by my mistakes. I'm 65 and have no building experience..LOL
I understand your frustration at not having it finished.....oh, do i understand!!! So sorry.. Hope it gets moving really soon...as bad as I hate to say it, winter is coming!

Yep, that 1/2" hardware cloth can be a beast. What I ended up doing was to take 2 pieces of heavy wood (4x4x3-4' long) and I rolled a length of the wire out on the ground, threw those 4x4's on top so it wouldn't curl back up on me (hated that!) then made my cuts. I went the extra $ and had bought a real good pair of wire cutters and wore gloves and cuts weren't too bad to do that way. It really is a 2-person job but it can be done when by yourself, just frustrating! Take your time....
