post your chicken coop pictures here!

Just found this thread and wanted to share our work in progress --- its our second time around. We have had 4 hens for 2 years and I have got the fever bad for some more chickens. I bought 6 chicks and then had to buy 2 more when the granddaughters visited. So needless to say we now need a bigger coop. We are building a 8x10 new coop for everyone.

This is what I currently have. The new coop is going to hook onto the back of the run. In the first photo you can see the back of our current coop. It looks so small next to the new one. We are going to leave it where it is.

awesome.... Love it all. Isnt it funny how chicken math takes over....

Is that your garage or a workshop next door? I like the idea youve put the access door where it will be easy to get into the coop without slogging through the mud... And a full height too... nice to be able to stand up inside the coop shut the door and putter. My personal preference.... since I get about with a walker.

OK, build is DONE! I put on two more coats of storm paint on the exterior today. Since it was so nice, 90', and windy, I also put blackjack on the lumber that will be in direct contact with the ground in the run.

Now just interior walls need painted, roosts and poop board need built, and OC the run needs assembled.

and sorry for the crooked photo
I just love Woods style coops. it would be about the only kind of enclosed coop I would build here in the desert... excellent air flow....

Wow did you have to get a permitt for it? And from the looks of your land you must have about twenty acres....

Well the coop was an existing barn. So I didn't pick that

they will just have tons of space. This is what it looks like (don't worry someone corrected the steepness of my roost and I built a new one

)

I'll be adding to that so don't take the picture too seriously. A lot is changing. I'm not done with it yet
Anyway. Husband and I started building a run rather than buying a kennel. And I went big
smile.png
. I built one that is L shaped. Total? 444sq feet

. It's a mansion.

Is that better? We aren't finished obviously. We just framed it out today. I'm pretty proud and excited with how big we worked it out to be.

I just saw this one must have missed it before.... Very nice ... you might consider converting some of the barn space for storage for feed and supplies... Always better not to have to haul feed from the house every time you want to feed. Maybe a partition in the back between nest boxes and back end of the barn.

My next poultry house is going to have a feed/work partition and space in that area for a sick bay... Just in case.

Hey its always a work in progress tinker some learn some tweak here and there. What works for you may not work for others and visa versa.

Oooo nice you have power at the end of the barn.... excellent for the occasional foray at night... checking on an odd noise or what ever... I have to put hot wire out there for me.... I have coyotes, bobcats and mountain lions... and the occasional feral dog.

In the middle of no where, no restrictions.
Anything permanent requires a permit and inspection, anything over 100sq Ft requires blueprints!

our coop building is 120 sq ft (220 if you count the run). Hopefully, we didn't need a permit because we didn't get one lol. We did cold the whole thing on foyers so "technically" it's floating and not a permanent structure. Not to mention, one of our neighbors is the township director and didn't say a word lol
