post your chicken coop pictures here!

awesome.... Love it all. Isnt it funny how chicken math takes over....

Is that your garage or a workshop next door? I like the idea youve put the access door where it will be easy to get into the coop without slogging through the mud... And a full height too... nice to be able to stand up inside the coop shut the door and putter. My personal preference.... since I get about with a walker.

Thanks Deb -- yes that is our work shop. Main reason for the push to get it framed. All the material has been in the shop. We are currently between storms here on the Oregon coast. We have learned so much after building our first one. It's kinda fun to do it over again. My husband is going over the top on this one. I keep telling him its just a chicken coop but he has never been one to take short cuts. But true be told he is enjoying the girls just as much as I am. Fun thing about having the girls by the shop is that I can check on them thought the day when we take breaks.
BYC has been an amazing resource for doing this. I am so grateful to everyone for sharing the knowledge and experience. Thank you.

In the middle of no where, no restrictions.
Anything permanent requires a permit and inspection, anything over 100sq Ft requires blueprints!

Ah... that explains it... here we can build up to x amount of square feet but Dont plumb it or wire it.... Crazy ....

Then again I am out in the middle of no where no one can see my house from the road and my driveway just looks like another jeep trail

.

I am building one that is 24 x 24 feet... but I am used to building horse fence and housing.... I am good as long as I dont make it LOOK perminant... Horse corral is 24 x 24 .... its the roof thats killing me if I cant figure out how to do it without help... I wont start.

OK, build is DONE! I put on two more coats of storm paint on the exterior today. Since it was so nice, 90', and windy, I also put blackjack on the lumber that will be in direct contact with the ground in the run.

Now just interior walls need painted, roosts and poop board need built, and OC the run needs assembled.

and sorry for the crooked photo

Where did you get your stencil chicken decals? Really nice.

Where I live is beyond any forest.... Up in the mountains we have both Perennial oak and Deciduous oak.... On my side of the mountain there used to be a Juniper forest but that burned down decades ago leaving only Chaparal. High desert gets snow though so there is what looks like green.... no grasses or if there are its tough and hearty and clinging on to a water source.

Here is a picture of my house from my neighbors driveway. Looking pretty much north. and winter time.... those trees in the foreground are planted... native to the desert not here. We get about nine inches of rain in a good year... Oh and the rust red box like thing is a 40 foot shipping container

Good place to call it a day. I can't believe how much my husband got done today. It really help that he had some of the 2x4's precut and the truss built. Trying to beat the next storm coming our way.

Great progress. Are you going to retire the original coop.... It might be good to give it a spruce up and use it for quarantine or a sick bay or even to raise up some Littleuns....

That's totally what we are going to do. Leave it where it's at and use it when needed. Maybe a time out place.
I'm planning on using it to slowly introduce the older girls to the new ones. I can lock the pullets in there and they will be right next to the run by the older 4 during the day. Just not sure how my 4 older girls will take to the new coop once it's done. Open for advice on that - how to introduce them to a new hen house with their old one right there still.

Just lock up the old one and feed them in the new.... If I have a run though I feed out in there once they get used to the new one.

but if they had free range around the new one while you were building they would be "supervising" big time... Better to keep em out from under foot though.

like I said I get about with a walker Oh I can walk some but i get very tired. So I have to have a place to sit close at hand. Dont need to be trippin on a nosy supervisor...

Do you get snow there? or mostly rain... the reason I ask is it might be a good idea while your constructing to add in a partial cover for the run....

I am always thinking of the sun here. it gets 110 occasionally and Shade is essential.
