post your chicken coop pictures here!

All of these coops are so cool. I'm planning on building a 40sq2 foot coop with a 100+sq2 foot run for my 8 chickens. This is super helpful.

Just finished building this for my chickens! I still have to finish up some painting and plan to do some landscaping, but I'm really happy with how it turned out :)

I haven't opened up the nesting boxes yet, but I think they should start laying in another month or two.

I even made them a swing! I might lower it a little, it seems a bit high for them right now.

Hey there MarissaGayle!

and welcome to the thread!

Overall, that's a really nice build. I would make a couple of recommendations however; first, that ramp is extremely steep! You need to double the length to 1/2 the existing angle of incline. Second, I see that you enclosed the entire run in chicken wire... That's fine for containing chickens and may even keep rabbits out, but it will not stop any determined predator. A fox, coyote, raccoon, stray dog, etc will be through that in no time. If it's not aproned out or buried down a foot or two, diggers will go right under and help themselves to a chicken lunch/dinner... mink, ermine, skunks, and a host of others. I'm sure you'll hear it from others as well, but you should use 1/2" hardware cloth 3' up and all around the outside. You can use any wire fencing to form the apron as it's just to thwart diggers, or you could put concrete pavers around the outside or large pieces of crushed rock etc. Good luck and welcome again.

I love seeing all of the great coops, the different approaches to making them and the run's that are attached. the different materials, landscapes and experiences of the builders. It's great seeing all the pictures, I've picked up a lot of neat ideas off of this thread. But, and hopefully I'm not stepping on any toes, and could possibly be wrong...... The one bit that leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth is the same negative responses to people's pictures of their coops. If they are asking for feedback IMHO great give it to them, but if they are new, or just looking to post pics of their coops they are proud to have made, maybe just let it be, or if you really want to give feedback drop them a PM (which is a much more personal way to give advice). Seems that some members wanting to share their coops might be a little bit intimidated by other members critiquing every coop (after all isn't this a post a pic thread and not a critique my coop thread?)

I was looking for a simple chicken coop and went to the local feed store and they were asking over $1100.00 for a little 4'x8' coop that was only 4' high. So I decided to build my own coop making it 8'x12' with a 3/12 slanted roof. The price was just under $1000.00 and turned out pretty good.

Thanks for this... and I am as responsible of the critique thing... I try to pose suggestions in a positive way... unfortunately it can come across as a critique.... I am fully aware that many of these posts are people new to building new to materials and new to chickens in general...

I do try to stick to building materials and techniques when offering suggestions... If I have made anyone uncomfortable please forgive me.

While a rarely post critiques or comments in general, When I do so, it is NOT to degrade the person or to take away from their pride in a job well done. The whole purpose of this site is to exchange information, to share "best practices" and to help each other to improve in our animal husbandry skills and to help us all improve our personal and our animals health and well being.

If I have said anything that has been taken personally or as a slight, then I apologize profusely as that was and is never my intention. I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings either. Being that the person IS new... and apparently inexperienced with chickens and chicken keeping in general, I rightly or wrongly thought that a couple of constructive suggestions might be appreciated as it could save her from loss down the line. I could have said nothing (and someone else most probably would have) and had something bad happened, I'd feel bad that I hadn't warned the person that these things could happen, but could be easily avoided.

Sending someone you've never met or spoken to/with a PM to make suggestions about how they could improve, to me, sounds like a personal intrusion and I would (personally) be a little miffed if someone did that to me. Why wouldn't they place their comments out in the open forum for all to see? Were they so unsure how their input would be received that they were afraid to voice it in public? I would hope that people wouldn't be so thin skinned as to take suggestions as a personal affront. Just MHO. Now back to lurkdom...

I know the chicken wire wasn't the best option, but I can't do much to change it as my dad is the one who's funding everything for the chickens. The wire is buried under about a foot already, so nothing is going to be getting underneath. None of my neighbors with chickens have had any problems with predators, even the free rangers, so I'm hoping that nothing will try too hard to get in. The ramp is a little steep, but the chickens haven't had any problems getting in or out of the coop so far, but if they begin to I'll make sure to change it. Thanks for the welcome and the advice!

I really like the discussion taking place here.

Yes, I'be read a few comments that come across abrasively. That happens all the time in the real world. The ability to discuss things regardless of pov is invaluable imo.

That's what forums and adults are supposed to be about.
