post your chicken coop pictures here!

These coops are awesome. I have only owned chickens for a bout 3 years and only have 1 coop right now. I am currently working on talking the wife into letting build another one. The biggest lesson I have learned is that function outweighs the need for me to have one the is pleasing to the wife. I spent alot of money on our first one and trimmed it out, painted it, bought a nice window, etc. Now I realize chickens dont care. So the next one will not be junky just more practical than the last.

LOL yea i know. My first coop is nice and looks good painted it to match house and shingled roof. Just spent way to much on it to justify it again. The next one will definatly look good not junky but I now know the things you need and the things that dont really matter. Its all a learning expierence not to mention a fun hobby to have.

the part of the worls my coops are located has very little junk to repurpose - most of it has already gone into peoples homes.

mine are made of lumber that we milled from spent coconut trees that we had on the farm, hardwood log skins from a cousin, thatch and bamboo from the river bank. I had do pay for nails, mesh some hollow blocks and a little plywood.

Yea I am going to try to find some wood from somewhere. Im wanting to try and make it have a rustic outdoors look. I am able to get some old wood pallets and thought about covering the outside with those to give it that kind of look. So many options. A farmer down the road built his entire coop out of pallets and it looks neat and different and houses about 65 chickens. They are all happy and the coop is simple but has all the neccesary things you should have in it. He cut up some old plastic 55 gallon drums and mounthed them on the wall as nesting boxes.

I didn't realize that my local home depot has a 70 percent off rack in the back of the store, got the floor plywood there just trimmed off the damaged end, local habitat for humanity had the roof plywood for $4 a sheet and the paint for $18 a gallon, there are alot of deals out there just have to keep your eyes open. My coop will be done and I figured it will come in a little over $200.

I was in my local home depot last night and bought some of the 70 percent off lumber. a lot of it is not that bad. I check with them often because im always needing lumber for something on one of my coops.

Here's a partially completed picture of my coop. I have since completed it, but haven't taken anynew pictures yet. This was back in September.

All the wood came from recycled pallets at work. Not the 48x40 kind, usually 5'x8', 4'x10', or 5'x10'. The half that is enclosed has a concret floor. It was already there so I decided to use it. The only things it cost me (other than time) was the roof, the mesh, nails and screws. Overall it's 27x15, with the enclosed area being 15x15. I'm going to add on a bit to the out door run, possible tunnels to different areas of the yard.

I don't let them free range. We have stray dogs, mink, coon, skunk, red tail hawks, possum and fox often seen in our yard.

I still need to finish the division in the run, the enclosed area is already divided. I'm going to keep eggs(hens) in one half and meat(males and/or broilers) in the other.

I am so jealous of you getting to work on your coops. I got my 8' x 8' ice house early this winter and although it works for now, it's just not how I want it. Unfortunately the temps are consistently in the teens and there's 3' of snow, Will be awhile. We will be residing it with reclaimed barn wood, adding a second roost and painting the interior with high gloss white. I'll also be switching out the small non-functional windows with larger functional ones. I got these cute "chicken" templates for cutting out the ventilation holes at the roofline. I've got a chicken and egg one for the front and a sunrise for the back.
