This is our coop. We are very new to this and bought this from a neighbor who builds them. He suggested no nesting boxes...that they will just lay on the floor. We did however buy a box from tractor supply. I'm already ready for a larger coop! Although we were told that there was room for approximate 6 I feel like its too small. I fact, we had 6 and 1 died a few days after getting them and I have decided not to replace it. Also I don't like how hard it is to get in and move around with the A-frame. It's very cute and build to last, but would suggest this for only 2-3 birds

It is so cute.....but you are right, I can't move around very well in my coop and am planning a larger one. I would say 5 is more than enough for that size. Do you have a roost in it?. If your ladies only go in it at night and have room to get on a roost it might be ok for a short while. If they have to stay in it a lengthy amount of time (during bad weather, etc) they might start doing their pecking thing. Would love to see how the inside is layed out.. by the way....RED is my favorite favorite color !!!!

I agree. The biggest problem I see is the poultry wire. It is good for keeping chickens in, but not good for keeping predators out. Dogs, coyotes, racoons, skunks, bobcats, etc. can rip right thru it.I know it is expensive, but hardware cloth is the way to go. Buried about a foot along the perimeter, to discourage digging, and everywhere the birds are not closed in the coop. You can put it over the chicken wire, if you want, easier than tearing it off. I build coops as a side business, and security is job 1!!

Picked up our 4 girls Monday night and their settleing in nicely,Put out 4 med sized brown eggs the next day,Also got to hear the Egg Song from one of them.She was loud and proud!! I thought their was something wrong with her until I seen a vid of what egg song sounds like..

We finally have our beach house chicken coop finished! It's 10 feet long and 3 feet wide. I am not sure how tall. I would say 6 feet at the tallest point. Not a moment too soon either, the chicks were jumping out of their temporary brooder! So far they love it. The ramp is a little steep for them still, but they have been climbing up and sliding/flying down it. We did use chicken wire, but we do not have much wildlife to worry about. Mostly cats and some crazy squirrels. (they keep planting peanuts for me)

We live in Central FL, it gets hot here and we tend to have a lot of rain. The run is sand, which should help the rain percolate through and not puddle. The roof is painted white to help reflect the sunlight, and also sloped so the rain runs off better. The roof over the run is white metal. So far we have pine in the nesting box area.
But I am interested in putting something "scoopable" there instead. We still need to add another vent and probably some more ventilation holes too.

I am sure the white trim won't stay white for long, but it matches our house, and it looks nice now
