post your chicken coop pictures here!

Dang. You nailed those birds on the head. Exactly how they are. The Black Sex Link is the boss. She is 2 1/2 years old. One RIR is tha same age and 1 is about 7 months old. The young one is fiesty and fast and usually graps the best treats and zig zags away bthe others can't catch her. Haha

Breeds all have different characteristics and temperaments and sizes but certain chicken behaviors remain the same in their kingdom. They are such a hoot to watch!

Thanks everyone .... But is it common for all of my hens to suddenly stop giving even 1 egg for 4 strait days where I was getting an average of 4-7 a day out of my girls... No slow down or drop of production... Just BOOM no eggs for 4 strait days....

I would look for any place something could be getting in and taking the eggs. This includes human trespassers. I had to put locks on all my coops since I had human thieves.

Then I would watch for any sign of a predator checking them out. Mine stopped laying for a week when a Coopers hawk landed on top of the run.

It is getting to be molting season for many so perhaps the shorter days and all that.

ok i am new to raising chickens, so please forgive my ignorance. I know from experience with the wild animals around here in the Adirondacks that nothing is totally impervious to invasion, but I keep reading of all these predators getting thru chicken wire into coops....I built my hen house from good old fashioned ply wood, with a good old fashioned vertical wooden sliding door that paws cannot get under to lift it up and get to my chickens. glass for windows (junk yard scavenged,) and one window that will have the chicken wire replaced with hardware cloth before taking the glass out next spring.. in the day time most predators are asleep, opossums, foxes and such. at night the chickens are in the coop.
so is there some reason the chickens aren't shut in at night behind wood and glass?

Here's a picture of one of the boys helping build our coop. It's 12ft x 4ft. The run is 78ft x 8ft plus the garden area in the winter. Eventually the grapes will cover most of the run for shade and snacks.

Thanks... I've been watching for signs of thieves but so far to no avail.... No signs of molting as of yet either but the idea of an arial predator scare is plossable. I know we have a red tailed hawk and even a bald eagle in the area.... I'll get my husband to set up one of his hunting trap cams up to see if we can catch anything 'egg' handed ....

Birds of prey would take your chickens long before the eggs. I would think you're more likely to find human, skunk, snake, opossum, etc. on that camera. Whatever it is, it seems either smart enough to know that taking out the chickens means no more eggs or it's too small to mess with the chickens which would mean snakes and rats.

Thanks... I know that both are very possible in our area... I'll set up the cam to verify.... I hope it's an easy fix....
