This is why I try to buy the Mary's pasture raised whenever possible. Not Cornish X and they really are PASTURE raised. They just taste better to me (even better than the Rocky ones, which are pasture raised Cornish X).

You can actually pasture raise Cornish X there are a couple of threads on here talking about it.

But they still TASTE bland to me. The Mary's chickens (some kind of French breed) aren't "the tofu of meat" if you know what I mean.

Mary's is the only pasture raised eating chickens I know of in CA - is Rocky another CA farmer?

Yes. Rockys are from Petaluma.

Pretty much everything here (from my buritto joint to the whole rotisserie birds at my grocery) is a Mary or Rocky.

Mary's are probably French Bresse... they are not like Cornish they develope in the same manner as any other dual purpose breed.

The cornish I am talking about are raised on Fermented feed and not allowed to gain weight too quickly. Meaning they are given a ration morning and afternoon but they have to forage for bugs during the day... Moving about and huntin down what they could catch.

do a search on the subject... there is alot of "discussion" on which way is best. And its all right here on BYC.

Don't the chickens get nervous living in a restaurant? Just a short step from roost to roast! :D

Nice looking place!

They don't seem to mind ;). These are my egg girls, they get to live in luxury and get names. I doubt I'll be able to eat any of there special ones since they are my first chickens. Haha

This is my coop. It isn't quite finished yet. It not as glamorous as some coops on here. But I built it with some help from my dad and fiance. I also repurposed all the wood from my horse barn. I hope my girls will like it. :)

After 2 days of thinking this is the design I've come up with. (Please ignore the wife's reminder. Only paper I could find to write on.)

from the San Diego High desert.

Love love love hand sketches... done a bizillion of em myself... Cant wait till you break ground so to speak...

After looking closer at the final picture May I recommend that you consider making the run at least tall enough so you can stand in it... For all sorts of reasons,

Cleaning
catching a bird
stripping out bedding
general maintenance.
