post your chicken coop pictures here!

We had read that they are docile and friendly as well as cold hardy, which is why we chose them. I didn't realize that they were dominant in personality. I guess it's a good thing that we decided not to mix the flock then! Lol.

Wyans probably are fine amongst themselves being on an equal personality level. I just hesitate mixing assertive breeds with timid breeds. You will have a lovely sea of ranging girls when they grow out - beautiful birds but I was glad I read several honest reviews about them before we invested in them to mix into our gentles flock mix. I only get the gentlest of temperament breeds for our backyard to avoid political flock dramas. We get less or average-sized eggs with gentle breeds but it was so worth it to us not to have the combative breeds which we eventually re-homed. It was our personal choice. Every owner chooses their own favorite breeds. That's what is so nice about chickens - so many breeds to choose from!

Finally got the big coop done! 16 x 8 with a 5 x 8 storage and feed room. It has a automatic pop door that we set to open 60 minutes after sunrise and set 30 minutes after sunset. The pop door has a wireless feature that tells us when it opens and closes and allows us to remotely open and close it. It also has a temperature sensor so we can monitor the coop in the summer and winter. It also has a 3 foot long clean out door under the roost which lifts up and locks for easy cleaning, 3 nest boxes that are accessible from out side and 4 PVC feeding spouts that can be filled from the feed room. It has 4 screened windows and 2 screened doors to aid with ventilation. The girls are loving their new digs :)
amazing!!! Love the feeders! Cute bull dog too!

Took about 3 weekends an no plans to build my coop. I still need to fence in the run this week though. Build some diy feeders and I should be good to go. Opted for the automatic door, seems pretty sweet. We shall see how it holds up soon.

That is a nicely built coop with a good roof overhang over the collection box. We quickly found with our 4x6 coop pen that it wasn't enough room for 3 hens and started to free range them in the backyard. Chickens love to scratch and dig huge dust-bath holes and will undermine the foundation of earth under the coop. We were surprised at how quickly the 3 hens adjusted to backyard ranging and we set up a popup canopy, several plywood shelters supported by cinderblocks, and 3 large recycled doghouses for them to hide/snooze in from aerial predators. The coop is used mainly for egg-laying or roosting for the night - the rest of the day they are busy foraging around the yard and have their shelters to snooze in. It's the funniest thing to watch 3 hens walk out of a big doghouse when we open the back door!

It was interesting to read a few posts ago that Wynadottes are a dominant breed.
In my case, my 2 Wynadottes are on the bottom of the pecking order.

I will be letting them out when I'm home to free range. It's going to have to be good enough for my 3 girls. Too many more projects I got to get to and so littletime.o
Just please be aware that you will have behavioral problems that will arise if that is all the space that they have for most of the day. Overcrowding can lead to all sorts of problems ranging from excessive bullying, to cannibalism. Also, overcrowded hens are stressed out hens, and as a result, will not lay very well for you.

My 2 Wyandottes are definitely the bottom of the pecking order in my flock of 14, now down to 10 after a Coyote attack while free-ranging. No more free-ranging during the day unless I'm outside to watch them.

Anyone have suggestions on where to buy 1/2 inch hardware cloth? It seems so expensive through the main places (Lowes, Home Depot, TSC, and Menards)
