post your chicken coop pictures here!

Thanks Sylvester! Todays work finally has it resembling what I planned out.

I couldn't find Sylvester's post so I'm just going to start by saying I trained the chicks to come and go through the tunnels (they actually figured it out by themselves) and they are running all over the run back and forth from one pen to the other to visit and cause trouble. Here are some pics of them in the run and the tunnels in the pens are visible as well. I also shot a pic of one of our most feared predators but it didn't come out very well: He is right next to the pool between the garage and pool. BTW, the garage collapsed and is waiting for some cash for a new roof and the pool needs some work and is waiting for some ambition on my part. I think you can just see the end of my wife's grape trellis at the end of the garden in this pic.

I was thinking about leaving the pens and making a new one like the larger one as permanent housing in case they get too cranky but the coop may be enough if I add the extra perches. I'm just picturing 22 birds trying to lay eggs in 10 nest boxes and don't think the turkeys will fit so may have to make larger nests for them, not sure. I'm still going to add corner boards to prevent the hens from cornering any of them to peck them. Truck is empty and has a new carb ($200) now so is ready to get more plywood :)

That looks great Gary!

I see the predator!!! (had t go to the original of the picture though). We have one of those wild bunny "predators" as well. It has figured out this isn't Watership Down and if we talk to it and move slowly, it just sits still. Hasn't gotten into the garden yet (not that there was much garden to speak of anyway). My wife once mistook it for one of the chickens when she was counting one evening last summer. She got to 16, the proper number, then spotted a chicken at the other end of the barn. Um Wha???? To be fair the weeds/clover in front of the barn gets tall. But still the top part of a rabbit doesn't look a that much like a chicken. Maybe she mistook the ears for a chicken's tail or something.

10 nests for 22 chickens is FINE! 3-4 birds per nest, no problem. I have 16 girls using 3 open nests and 1 closed 4' community box. They only use the left side of the community for some reason even though there is space for 4 nests if they chose to use the space.

I got the ramp done today so when i get up the nerve i can just lower the ramp and let them merge. Still have to finish securing the barn end wire with firing strips and bury the hardware cloth and install the corner preventers. I figured out a moveable roost that will go through a 3 foot door. I can build it in the run and move it into the coop later. All 2x4 construction. Winding down to the finish :)

Anybody know the dimensions of a typical turkey nest box? Do they even nest like chickens?

So sorry.  They are susceptible to many of the same disease we are plus needing Vitimine C in their diet...  either in their pellets or throug broccoli or cabbage.  Probably why science use them  as test subjects.
