Used slightly modified plans from Ana-White website. 4x8 coop with a 8*12 run. Run has hardware cloth over the top right now with the plan to make a solid roof in the future. Run also has a 24" welded wire skirt around the bottom of it.

I really like this one, very nice!

@MeepBeep @bruceha2000 thanks for the feedback. Yes, I'm looking at different options regarding the cooling the water in the nipple waterer. Don't think I'm not listening to what you are saying. I have thought about a recirculating pump setup. I will probably have to do some experiments to see for myself what different approaches will work, starting with the most simple.. KISS is a high priority for me...less moving parts, less things to break, less things to support. The SS cable is about as simple as I can get...will only cost the price of a few feet of cable (if I don't have some stuck back somewhere) to see if it works. The structure of the waterer will readily accept the tubing or cable.

I did a *very small* experiment at the shop. We have an old Oasis water fountain there. I took a infrared thermometer and took a reading on the spout fixture right beside the orifice where the water emits from. I took the reading about an inch from the orifice. The initial reading of 80F when I started the water flowing. In just a few seconds the temp gun was showing 70F. The fixture is either stainless steel or plated brass...not sure which....it's probably 30-40 years old and still shiny. That was only a inch or so distance, but I expect the water in the bottom of the iced cooler to be colder than the water emitting from the Oasis cooler. If I can lower the water temp down five degrees or so below the high ambient I'll feel like it's a success.

The ice will only be used during this 95F+ times (unless I'm feeling mighty generous

) so it won't be a constant feature. One thing I am concerned with, whether using tubing or cable, is whether their physical presence will interfere with the action/sealing of the nipples o-rings...that might be an issue if the tubing/cable isn't secured within the pvc pipe. Might complicate application a bit, in having to build two pvc fixtures and secure the cable/tube to the inside of the pipe with some shoe-goo or something. Ah well, we'll see....

Our high yesterday was 98F...looks like we have some rain chances moving in that will give us a break in the heat...back down into the low 90's.

I don't know what breed but I do know the sex. The darker colored one is a cockerel but it still could be a hen but right now I am leani torwards cockerel and the lighter more white one in the back is a hen for sure.

I am no chicken expert but the white one with black on its collar look like a couple Brahma hens I have mine are a little older now about 5 weeks. The lady at the feed store showed me a way to tell the cockerel by pulling their wings out and looking at the length of the flight feathers the hens are all the same length very even on the ends and the cockerels the end feathers are longer than the ones near their bodyand they lack most of the tail feathers at that age. This is all second hand knowledge I am no expert.

I believe that being able to feather sex a chick is breed dependant, meaning some can be, some can't.

We still need paint, it is 12'x8' inside and they have a fenced in 50'x50' run to free range in. Thinking about putting sand under the coop to help them cool off since there is only one small tree for shade
