Post Your Chocolates, Dun ,Khaki , Platinum Bird Pics

Pics
I thought I'd bump this thread a bit and hoping there will be a few others adding some new photo's here as well. Here are a couple of young Serama cockerels that I bought today. I don't know if they are dun or what they are but hope that breeding them to some black hens, the genes will show themselves. I've also read that blue plus chocolate can dilute them more than either of those genes do individually so they may be chocolate/blues. Either way I really like the color. I have some very chesty black hens with short backs that should pair up nicely with these 2. I have no information about the parents to either of these, they came from the same flock but they could be related or not. I did not see any in the flock that looked chocolate or dun, most were either near white, with a lot of yellow in the hackles are really dark, blacks and wheaten looking or BBR colors. There weren't any hens that really stood out that looked dun or chocolate either but you know how Serama's colors can be. Here they are, very poor photo's because these boys were terrified. They had been raised outside all winter in a large coop and never handled.

Any comments on color is appreciated, thanks

Meara, I didn't really see anything dun or chocolate or blue looking in her pens so I have no idea. I'll do some test breeding with my big chested black hens and see if that tells me anything about the boys genetics. If there is dun, I should get some dark chocolate looking chicks. I kind of think there is some blue in there, at least with the other one so I was curious if it could just be a combo of blue and chocolate making this color??

Only one way to find out, breeding to my solid blacks. That should help pull some information out. Can't wait :) They're in quarantine for a while and I'll pull a couple of my black hens out and let them be without a rooster a couple of weeks then when these new boys are out of quarantine, the hens will be ready too.

Maybe the "near white" birds were khaki or blue splash? In any event I love their colors. You'll have to check back when you have hatchlings and let us know what happens.

This is my bantam Polish hen who might be a light dun or platinum. Or is she just a light blue? What do you think? She was hatched from eggs purchased from another BYC member who sold me blue/dun/khaki/platinum hatching eggs from her breeding program. Don't mind her crest, it's dirty in this photo plus I have been trimming it to help her see better.

The only way to know for sure would be to breed her to a White Crested Black male. If she is Platinum she will produce Platinum, Dun, Blue and Black chicks.

I'm inclined to say she looks Platinum, mostly due to the lack of lacing and the somewhat brown hue to her feathers. That and knowing her background it's probably a good possibility she is Platinum.

You'll just have to hatch a bunch of chicks and find out!

I think platinum as well

I just bought five new Polish bantam chicks and hopefully one will be a suitable mate for her. If only she would lay regularly. She laid AN egg and then nada. That was more than a month ago:(
